Manager –Agriculture Development & Policy
Location: New Delhi (Travel across India required)
Organization: Nuts and Dry Fruits Council (India) – NDFC(I)
Position Summary
The Manager – Will lead NDFC(I)'s efforts to promote cultivation of high-value, climate-suitable crops such as almonds, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, dates and other commercially viable crops across India.
Key Responsibilities
Farmer Development & Outreach
- Identifying suitable agro-climatic zones for import-dependent crops.
- Working with nurseries to ensure availability of quality planting material.
- Coordinating with research institutions to evaluate new varieties.
- Building partnerships with FPOs, NGOs and state horticulture departments.
- Preparing policy briefs and recommendations for state and central governments.
- Develop model farming clusters.
Government Relations & Policy
- Identify government schemes that can benefit growers.
- Assist in drafting policy recommendations, white papers and industry representations.
- Support creation of new policies that encourage domestic cultivation of nuts and dry fruits.
Research & Industry Collaboration
- Collaborate with ICAR institutions, agricultural universities, scientists and subject matter experts.
- Identify suitable crop varieties for different agro-climatic zones.
- Coordinate pilot projects and demonstration farms.
- Collect field data and prepare technical reports.
Project Management
- Plan and execute agriculture development projects.
- Prepare project proposals and progress reports.
- Monitor project KPIs and impact assessments.
- Coordinate with internal teams, consultants and external stakeholders.
Desired Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture or related field
Experience
- 2–6 years of experience in:
- Agricultural development
- Farmer engagement
- Rural development
- Government liaison
- Horticulture projects
- Agricultural consulting
Fresh candidates with exceptional academic credentials and strong field exposure may also apply.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of Indian agriculture and horticulture.
- Knowledge of government agriculture schemes and policies.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to engage with farmers as well as senior government officials.
- Project management capability.
- Policy drafting and report writing.
- Stakeholder management.
- Data analysis and report preparation.
- Willingness to travel extensively across India.
- Fluency in English and Hindi (knowledge of regional languages will be an advantage).
