Job description
- The student laboratory assistant will report directly to the Biology Lab Manager, who will assign tasks to support the lab components of courses offered in the Biology Department.
- Work assignments, depending on the experience level of the candidate, may include:
Glassware washing and general lab maintenance, setup and breakdown of prescribed lab experiments, solution and media prep, microbial culture maintenance, secondary bottle labelling, chemical inventory, Safety Data Sheet organization, and other safety and biological procedures.
- The laboratory student assistant will be required to complete several basic safety training modules when first starting, as part of safety certification.
Qualifications
Biology Major or Nursing Student, some biology background preferred, such as high school biology, but not required.
Work Days and Hours:
The laboratory student assistant will work no more than 10hours per week during the Spring semester of the 2025-2026 academic year.
No work will be scheduled during the 2026 Winterim or Summer of 2026.
A mutually agreeable work schedule will be drawn up once the candidate is hired, taking into account the student's available hours and the needs of the Biology Department.
