As a Sourcing Consultant at Northern Trust, you will play a crucial role in developing and delivering a comprehensive category strategy, ensuring alignment with provided materials for consistency. Your responsibilities will include:
- Strategic Supplier Negotiations: Leveraging Suppliers' fiscal pressures, market conditions, and contract anniversaries to secure deeper discounts, optimized rate cards, and value-added services. Prioritizing high-spend categories and suppliers with consolidation or rebate potential.
- Critical Review of all 2026 Renewals: Conducting a challenge process for every renewal, focusing on eliminating low-value subscriptions or services, renegotiating pricing for underutilized offerings, bundling opportunities for improved commercial value, and driving competitive pressure before renewal deadlines.
- Competitive RFX Pipeline: Continuously getting ahead of renewal opportunities and accelerating competitive bidding to drive market-based pricing.
- Strategic Partnerships: Focusing on long-term relationships with key suppliers which can lead to shared innovation and priority access to materials, protecting against volatile market disruptions and enhancing savings.
- Supplier Consolidation to Achieve 3% Reduction: Rationalizing the supply base by shifting volume to preferred, high-performing suppliers. Consolidation increases leverage, improves service consistency, and reduces administrative overhead, directly contributing to the 3% consolidation target.
- Demand Management: Preventing unnecessary purchases before they happen. Eliminating rogue or "maverick" spend, which often accounts for significant value leakage.
- Actively managing "tail spend": Focusing on Candex or consolidation to top vendors.
- Effective control practices: Educating and aligning stakeholders on Strategic Sourcing best practices, policy & process. Aligning to TPMO program managing risk effectively.
- Working with the DEI team to identify opportunities for the inclusion of Diverse suppliers in sourcing events.
In addition to the key responsibilities, you will be required to have:
- In-depth knowledge of supply chain management and procurement, with demonstrated experience in sourcing for indirect categories (e.g. IT).
- Strong analytical, sourcing, negotiation, and communication skills. Technically adept with basic application software; proficient in MS Office Suites with advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with ERP system/Peoplesoft. Demonstrated success in time management; superior project management skills, attention to detail; thorough and organized.
Qualifications required for this role include:
- 6+ years of experience in Sourcing or Procurement related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Graduation or above degree in Business, Supply Chain Management MBA or other advanced degree and a professional Procurement/Supply Chain Management designation (e.g. CSCP, CPM) are a strong plus.
