Job description

Summary

This role is the primary studio/control room director and will require them to collaborate closely with line producers, senior producers and the EP on the creative look and feel of the show. The correct person must excel at working with others as they will lead their studio and control room crew, plus interface with graphics, music, lighting and network operations to execute of the show. The director must be calm and organized - one who works well under pressure and always treats co-workers with respect.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of lighting, shot framing, camera blocking and sound engineering
  • Experience with directing live multi-camera productions
  • Solid knowledge base and experience managing production staff
  • In-depth crew experience working in live TV
  • Must have ability to handle various tasks simultaneously, organize, prioritize, make decisions and work efficiently and effectively under deadlines
  • Excellent remote production leadership skills at both editorial and practical levels
  • Strong story-based journalistic instincts and skills and the ability to bring that out in others
  • Experience creating, guiding and then reviewing each production for improvement and growth
  • High organizational skills
  • Conduct meetings with staff to discuss production progress and to ensure production objectives are attained
  • Comfortable working within established budgetary parameters
  • Resolve personnel problems that arise during the production process by acting as liaison between dissenting parties when necessary
  • Strong understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives

Required Qualifications

  • College diploma or university degree in Film, Communications or TV directing and/or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of experience in production, TV directing and/or leadership position in a TV studio

  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently
  • Flexible during times of change
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally will need to sit for long periods of time while on-air for a live show

Travel

  • Unlikely but possible depending on event and assignment

Terms / Expected Hours of Work

  • 8-10 hours per day, sometimes more
  • May need to work flexible hours, weekends and holidays
  • 7-month seasonal employment
