Job Title: Special Education Teacher – Cross-Categorical (SPED Cross Cat)

Location: Sterling, VA 20164

Job Type: Contract (Local or Travel)

Shift: Day Shift | 08:50 AM – 03:40 PM

Duration: 9 Weeks

Weekly Hours: 35 Hours

Position Overview

"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Education Cross-Categorical (SPED Cross Cat) Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs across multiple disability categories. This role focuses on delivering individualized, standards-based instruction aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), promoting academic success, functional independence, and social-emotional development.

The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with general education staff, related service providers, families, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure students are supported in the least restrictive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct special education instruction across multiple disability categories
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Adapt curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessments to meet individual student needs
  • Deliver instruction in one-on-one, small group, and inclusive classroom settings
  • Track and document student progress toward IEP goals using data-driven methods
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and differentiated instruction
  • Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility reviews, and parent conferences
  • Implement behavior intervention plans and provide classroom behavior support
  • Maintain accurate documentation, progress reports, and compliance records
  • Foster students’ academic, social, behavioral, and functional skill development
  • Maintain a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress

Required Qualifications

Education & Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education
  • Active or eligible Virginia Special Education teaching license (Cross-Categorical or equivalent endorsement)

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting
  • Strong understanding of IEP processes and special education regulations
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners
  • Effective classroom management and behavior support skills
  • Strong organizational and documentation abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a Cross-Categorical Special Education role
  • Experience supporting students with autism, emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, or intellectual disabilities
  • Familiarity with inclusive classroom practices and co-teaching models
  • Experience implementing behavior intervention plans and data-driven instruction
