Summary: Our Early Learning Center (ELC) strives to provide high-quality early childhood education and early intervention for children with and without disabilities, ages six weeks to five years, in an inclusive educational setting. The Early Learning Center Nurseis responsible for all issues relating to the health and welfare of the students enrolled and during their attendance in Early Learning and Early Intervention Programs.
Schedule & Location: The ELC is located on Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue in SE Washington, DC. The hours are Monday - Friday (year-round) from 8:30a - 4:30p with one late day 9:00a-5:00p.
This position has an annual salary range of $72,800 - $76,000.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Health Screenings & Medical Compliance Monitoring
- Plan and conduct required health screenings (vision, hearing, etc.).
- Monitor and report on immunizations, TB tests, lead levels, health/dental certificates, and medical action/substitution forms.
- Run compliance reports to ensure adherence to DC regulations.
- Direct Nursing Care & Medication Administration
- Provide nursing care per Early Intervention Nursing Policies and Procedures.
- Implement physician orders for medication/treatment and store medications/equipment securely.
- Review and manage Medical Action Plans and ensure proper medication guidelines are followed.
- Health & Safety Documentation and Data Management
- Maintain accurate and secure records (e.g., Medication Authorization, Logs, Medical Substitution Forms) in both the health suite and digital systems.
- Ensure documentation meets requirements from DC DOH, CDC, OSSE, and CACFP standards.
- Staff & Family Education and Training
- Create communicable disease letter templates and provide ongoing training to staff and families on medical action plans, dietary needs, and child-specific health concerns.
- Deliver training before student enrollment and as needed thereafter.
- Care Coordination & Community Resource Referrals
- Coordinate on-site services and wrap-around care in partnership with community organizations.
- Refer families to relevant services (e.g., WIC, specialists, vision/hearing resources).
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
- Associates degree in nursing: BSN preferred; CPR/ First Aid/AED certification
- Licensed as an RN in the District of Columbia
- Previous experience with special needs Early Intervention population preferred
- MS Office proficiency; ChildPlus data management system preferred
