Assistant Music Director

Mosaic Harmony, an award-winning community choir based in Northern Virginia, is searching for an assistant director. This person will support the director to achieve the choir’s mission and vision to celebrate diversity and inclusion, share its message through the powerful medium of song, and inspire audiences to embrace ALL people. Further, they will understand and commit to Mosaic Harmony’s history of non-auditioned membership.

A Mosaic Harmony performance isn’t just a concert, it is an entertaining, interactive, and inspirational experience for everyone present.

Experience

• Minimum 4 years of experience teaching and directing choirs/ensembles
• Background in traditional and contemporary Gospel/Spirituals and associated music genres
• Experience selecting repertoire appropriate for diverse performance settings (religious, secular, theme specific, etc.)

Time Commitment

• Attend bi-weekly two-hour rehearsals during the 9 month performing season.
• Expectation of approximately 5-8 hours per week on average during the year.
• Attends pre-rehearsal and extra practices with musicians to review music
• Attend concerts as they occur – approximately 8 per year.
• Participate in music planning prior to and during the performing season.
• In the absence of the music director, performs the duties of the music director to include directing the choir during rehearsals and performances.

Job Skills

• Ability to assist the director in preparing online vocal tracks, lyric sheets and music scores.
• Ability to direct warm-ups and teach individual parts for each choir section
• Works with music director to coach soloists
• Cooperative team leadership style with musicians, director, and choir board
• Collaborates with the music director to select songs for concerts
• Serves as a key member of all major production (concert) teams
• Experience with music scoring software is a plus
• Keyboard skills to support teaching and rehearsals is a plus

Job Types: Contract, Part-time

Pay: Up to $10,000.00 per year
