Project Manager Role

A stealth San Francisco Bay Area-based biotech start-up is searching for a scientifically rigorous and highly motivated Project Manager/Senior Project Manager, Research to fill the role of program manager for multiple programs, advancing drug candidates from early discovery to IND. This will be a fast-paced, lean biotech environment.

The successful candidate should have a background in the preclinical stage, but preferably up to IND, of drug development for either biologics or peptides drugs. The ability to think creatively, work collaboratively within cross-functional teams, manage external research activities, and effectively manage the rapid advancement of programs through preclinical development to IND are key to the success in this position.

Core responsibilities will be to manage and coordinate all aspects of project development, including resource management, timelines, and budgets, ensuring timely and efficient progress from program initiation through pre-clinical development. Project managers will also support operational and BD/strategy activities as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work cross-functionally with scientific program leads to identify critical path activities, milestones, gaps, and challenges; and develop plans accordingly to meet program goals.
• Clearly and timely communicate timeline expectations, changes, issues, or relevant information to managers and colleagues as appropriate.
• Implement strategies for keeping track of internal and external scientific activities and timelines; track those activities.
• Manage contractual aspects of external collaborations and communication of different CROs, including proactively engagement when potential issues/challenges arise on studies and/or timelines are not being met.
• Keep track of budgetary projections and forecasts. Manage incoming invoices against the approved contracts and budget.
• Create and implement a central location for the organization and storage of relevant research documents.
• Coordinate meetings and present project updates/reports to senior management and stakeholders.
• Foster a collaborative and productive team environment.

Requirements

• M.S./Ph.D. in a scientifically-related field
• 3-5 years of project management experience in the biotech industry.
• Strong background in research with a solid understanding of preclinical drug development to IND is required
