Job Description

Position Overview

The GEODS program is seeking a Senior AWS Cloud Operations Engineer to support a production AWS environment operating in a secure federal setting. This is a hands-on role focused on AWS infrastructure administration, IAM governance, S3 data security, monitoring, and cloud operations.

This is not a traditional on-premise system administration role. Candidates must have significant experience administering production AWS environments and implementing cloud security best practices.

Work Schedule

Within the window of 5:00 AM – 9:00 PM EST

On-site Monday through Friday in support of mission requirements.

Core Responsibilities AWS Identity and Access Management

  • Design, implement, and manage IAM roles and policies using least-privilege principles
  • Administer S3 bucket access controls and enforce data security standards
  • Manage IAM access keys and secret rotation in accordance with 90-day key policies
  • Support cross-account access and secure multi-account AWS environments

AWS Infrastructure Operations

  • Administer and troubleshoot EC2 Linux instances in production
  • Monitor system health using CloudWatch, Kibana/Elasticsearch, and other observability tools
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to networking, DNS, storage, and permissions
  • Configure SNS topics and S3 notifications to support automated workflows
  • Recommend cost optimization and scalability improvements

Monitoring, Logging, and Incident Response

  • Analyze logs to identify system performance or security issues
  • Support incident response efforts in coordination with security teams
  • Maintain operational dashboards and reporting tools

Operational Excellence

  • Support deployments in collaboration with DevOps and development teams
  • Work ServiceNow tickets in accordance with SLAs
  • Document procedures and maintain technical SOPs
  • Proactively identify reliability improvements

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on AWS administration experience in production environments
  • Demonstrated expertise with:
  • IAM roles, policies, and access governance
  • S3 security controls
  • EC2 Linux administration
  • CloudWatch monitoring and log analysis
  • AWS networking fundamentals (VPC, security groups, NACLs)
  • Experience supporting secure federal or regulated environments preferred
  • Ability to work independently in a mission-focused environment

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of experience, OR
  • Associate’s degree plus 7 years of experience, OR
  • 8+ years of relevant experience

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $130,000.00 per year
