A Day in the Life

Join our Operations Sourcing team as a Sr. Strategic Sourcing Manager, where you’ll lead a team responsible for ensuring raw material supply continuity and long-term supplier risk reduction. Your expertise will help power solutions for the Colorado Campus, solving complex supply challenges and fueling Medtronic’s mission to improve patient lives every day.

You will lead and develop a team to identify, implement, and align global sourcing strategies, supplier risk-mitigation projects, capacity plans, and continuous improvement plans to achieve business objectives. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring supply chain stability and driving margin enhancement.

As the Sr. Strategic Sourcing Manager, you will: 

  • Lead and develop the Operations Sourcing function supporting Medtronic’s Colorado Campus, with direct leadership responsibility for a team of four Operations Sourcing professionals.

  • Develop and execute strategic Operations Sourcing initiatives that improve supplier performance, drive operational excellence, and enhance Supplier On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) delivery results.

  • Ensure uninterrupted supply continuity for Colorado Campus manufacturing operations by proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating supplier-related risks across the Boulder, Louisville, and Parker sites.

  • Lead critical supplier negotiations focused on supply assurance, capacity expansion, performance improvement, contract management, and cost reduction opportunities while strengthening strategic supplier partnerships.

  • Drive comprehensive portfolio component risk assessments, identifying vulnerabilities and leading cross-functional mitigation strategies to reduce supply chain risk and improve business resiliency.

  • Enhance escalation management and tier governance processes to improve visibility, accountability, and responsiveness to supplier performance and supply continuity challenges.

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for Purchasing and Supplier Quality teams, resolving complex supply issues and ensuring minimal disruption to manufacturing operations.

  • Champion continuous improvement and functional excellence, advancing Operations Sourcing standard work through Lean, Zero Loss, and best-practice methodologies.

  • Build and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships with Supply Network Planning, Operations Scheduling, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality Engineering, Operations Quality, Finance, Category Management, and other key stakeholders to drive business objectives.

  • Partner with suppliers and internal stakeholders to optimize inventory strategies, including Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) and Supplier Managed Inventory (SMI) programs, delivering cost savings, inventory optimization, and improved supply reliability.

  • Drive supplier accountability and performance management, utilizing data-driven insights and strategic supplier development plans to enhance quality, delivery, responsiveness, and overall supply chain performance.

  • Lead initiatives that strengthen supplier resilience and business continuity, ensuring readiness to support evolving production demands, new product introductions, and long-term growth objectives.

Must-Have: Minimum Requirements 

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant sourcing experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant sourcing experience with 5+ years of managerial experience

Nice to Have 

  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams through effective coaching, talent development, and performance management.

  • In depth understanding of supplier relationship management, supply chain, planning, purchasing, materials, and inventory control environment. 

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex business challenges into clear insights and recommendations for leadership decisions. 

  • Experience in leading and influencing negotiations, project management, troubleshooting, problem-solving analysis, strategic thinking, and collaborative team building. 

  • Proven project management experience, PMP certification a plus. 

  • Experience with supplier transfers and building phase-in, phase-out material plans. 

  • Strong computer and business analytical skills: i.e., Power BI, Blue Yonder, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project. Advanced Excel knowledge (vlookup, pivot tables, formulas, macros, dashboards) 

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex business challenges into clear insights and recommendations for leadership decision. 

  • Experience in the medical device industry with knowledge of applicable FDA/GMP and International medical device regulations and standards. 

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$144,000.00 - $216,000.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
