Position Purpose
At McAdams, our Green Stormwater Infrastructure Practice specializes in designs that improve water quality while supporting growth and development of high profile projects. Green stormwater infrastructure is utilized in private, municipal, and non-profit markets to manage stormwater within the landscape and amenities of the built environment. The ideal candidate will leads and oversees the implementation of projects improving water quality, ensuring successful delivery from design through construction. This role is responsible for managing project teams, maintaining client relationships, and ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest technical standards. The Project Manager coordinates design efforts, manages resources, handles permitting and regulatory compliance, and ensures quality control across all deliverables. Additionally, the role involves business development, risk management, and mentoring junior staff, contributing to the growth and success of the firm.
- Lead and manage all aspects of stormwater projects from concept through construction administration, serving as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships by providing exceptional service, managing expectations, and identifying opportunities for repeat business and referrals.
- Oversee and mentor project teams, fostering collaboration and ensuring clear communication and coordination among design staff, subconsultants, and other team members.
- Develop, manage, and track project budgets and schedules, allocating resources effectively to deliver projects on time and within budget while proactively addressing potential issues.
- Lead permitting efforts by working with local agencies and municipalities to secure timely approvals and compliance with regulations, addressing agency comments and facilitating site permitting processes.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, resolve technical and design challenges promptly, and maintain the quality of all project deliverables through regular reviews of design documents, construction drawings, reports, and specifications.
- Manage relationships with external subconsultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure deliverables meet project requirements and timelines.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including planning, assigning, and directing work, conducting performance appraisals, rewarding employees, and resolving problems.
- Prepare and present project updates to stakeholders, including progress reports, budget status, and risk assessments, while maintaining accurate project documentation.
- Provide technical assistance across various projects within the group and contribute to innovative environmental protection strategies in the evolving green design market.
- Work on stormwater designs, retrofits, construction drawings, and watershed planning studies, interacting with reviewers and permitting entities to advance technical project components.
- Participate in field work and site visits throughout all project phases.
Qualifications
- Four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field
- 7+ years of design experience in water resources, civil engineering or GSI
- Experience with AutoCAD
- Experience with hydrograph routing and H+H modeling
- Understanding of common stormwater regulations and permitting requirements
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Self-starter with strong drive to better oneself, project team, and community
- Ability and desire to be licensed within 4 months
