Production Supervisor – Rail Car Manufacturing (Direct Hire)

Locations:

West Falls Church, VA (Primary site)

Roaming assignment across DC/MD/VA rail facilities

Shifts Available:

  • 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM (Fixed site role)
  • 7:00 PM – 3:00 AM (Roaming multi-site rotation)

Compensation: $71,000 – $82,000

About the Role

We are seeking experienced Production Supervisors for a railcar manufacturing and maintenance environment. This role is responsible for leading shop production teams, ensuring safety, efficiency, quality, and adherence to production schedules across high-volume rail operations.

Supervisors will either be assigned to a fixed production facility in West Falls Church, VA, or operate in a roaming role across multiple rail yard locations in the DC/MD/VA corridor.

Key ResponsibilitiesProduction Leadership

  • Supervise shop production employees and ensure efficient daily operations
  • Assign tasks, set clear expectations, and drive production schedule adherence
  • Maintain equipment readiness and proper tool usage

Team Management

  • Train, develop, and coach employees for performance and succession planning
  • Provide performance feedback, corrective action, and HR coordination support
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and productive work environment

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Develop and maintain production schedules aligned with operational demands
  • Coordinate manpower, materials, and workflow across shifts or locations

Technical Oversight

  • Interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and work instructions
  • Troubleshoot production issues and support technical problem-solving

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout procedures
  • Ensure compliance with company and regulatory safety standards

Materials & Quality Control

  • Ensure materials are staged and available before shifts
  • Monitor quality standards and reduce waste or rework

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate production records and SAP system updates
  • Report progress to Production Management in a timely manner

Requirements

  • 1–3+ years supervisory experience in manufacturing or heavy industry
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and blueprint reading ability
  • Experience with hand/power tools and production environments
  • Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in physically active environments (up to 40 lbs lifting, ladders, stairs)
