Position Summary
Assistant Area Fire Manager based out of Bissett and Gypsumville. The role is under the direction of the Area Fire Manager, supervising departmental staff; leading during critical events and day‑to‑day wildfire preparedness and suppression operations; coordinating and implementing technical programs including wildfire training and FireSmart programming; acting in an Incident Management Team during large complex wildfire incidents; managing complex wildfire bases; supervising suppression and pre‑suppression activities; and traveling throughout the region and province.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a diverse number of departmental staff.
- Effectively lead staff during critical events and day‑to‑day wildfire preparedness and suppression operations.
- Coordinate and implement technically diverse and complex programming including wildfire training and FireSmart programming.
- Operate as part of an Incident Management Team during large complex wildfire incidents.
- Adapt to unforeseen changes and interruptions while maintaining organization.
- Assist in managing complex wildfire bases and implementing wildfire suppression and pre‑suppression activities.
Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate from an approved Resource Technology Program with related experience in wildfire management, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience in wildfire suppression, coordination, preparedness and detection efforts.
- Experience in supervision and performance management of staff.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and lead teams.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) or similar.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to prioritize and organize changing workloads and demands.

Conditions of Employment
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence.
- Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required.
- Must be willing and able to travel throughout the Province of Manitoba as required.
- Must be physically able to perform the duties assigned to the position including lifting equipment weighing up to 65 lbs.
- Must be capable of flying in a wide variety of small aircraft during adverse weather conditions.

Salary: RS4 $2,272.00 - $2,789.60 bi-weekly
