Mainfreight Inc. is a global, full-service supply chain provider seeking an exemplary candidate to join our NYC Ocean Customs Brokerage team.

Become a part of a leading global supply chain company as a licensed customs broker. This position requires candidates be based near Elizabeth, NJ.

We are looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented person with a passion for customs compliance. The role is highly responsible for ensuring that Mainfreight- and our clients – import compliantly. You will be responsible for processing import entries timely and compliantly, determining classification of merchandise, and preparing entry documents. While working within our fantastic culture, you must be comfortable with change and working in a highly decentralized, self-motivated position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Confirm credit terms for payment of duty and freight
  • Determine classification for a wide variety of commodities based on information provided on commercial invoice and through consultations with the client and your colleagues.
  • In-bonds, Importer Security Filings, bonded warehouse, and FTZ admissions/withdrawals are part of the job!
  • Determine proper valuation for accurate duty calculation
  • Prepare and submit various types of entry documents. Maintain brokerage records.
  • Monitor entry status for Customs and PGA release. Upon release, prepare delivery order and confirm delivery.
  • Prepare and/or process duty billings as required
  • Prepare PGA transmissions and/or documentation related to those agencies.
  • And ensure duty payments are made timely – a key compliance role!

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics, or a related field, or at least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in freight forwarding, entry writing, or import/export compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • U.S. Customs Brokerage License.

Ideal Candidate:

  • 2- 4 years of experience in Import Customs Clearance operations.
  • Ability to plan effectively and manage schedules to meet deadlines and customer expectations.
  • Cargowise Experience, or certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with current and historical customs regulations, Harmonized Tariff Schedule, and decisions of related government agencies such as the EPA, FDA and USDA.
  • You have a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • You take responsibility and have a solution focused, pro-active approach.
