Data Scientist II, Brampton, ON
Loblaw Technology and Analytics team is hiring a Data Scientist with experience working with modern data science tools and technology and possessing a deep understanding of data mining and analytical techniques.
A Data Scientist II comes with many varied talents. We are looking for Data Scientists with experience in applied research and problem solving. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting analyses and developing impactful models to help solve a wide variety of data science problems.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop & Deploy Agentic AI Solutions: Design, architect, develop, and deploy advanced machine learning models and intelligent agents to enable autonomous decision-making and optimize retail operations, including designing new features and automating deployments.
- Drive Data-Driven Optimization & System Health: Perform expert-level data extraction, transformation, and analysis using SQL (especially BigQuery), and proactively identify, diagnose, and troubleshoot system deficiencies to configure and tune multi-tiered systems for optimal performance, stability and availability.
- Ensure Code Quality & Operational Excellence: Utilize Git for version control, maintain a high-quality codebase through rigorous code reviews, improved test coverage, and automation, adhering to best data and software development approaches.
- Foster Strategic Collaboration & Adoption: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into scalable, agentic data science solutions, and increase internal adoption of advanced analytics methodologies.
- Manage Compliant & Timely Project Delivery: Ensure timely project delivery and commitments, while strictly adhering to legal and compliance guidance regarding sensitive information.
What you Bring:
- Expertise in Machine Learning & Agentic Systems: Proven ability to design, build, and deploy intelligent, autonomous ML models and agent-based solutions, demonstrating a strong theoretical and practical understanding of various algorithms.
- Robust Technical Stack: Strong proficiency in SQL (with specific experience in BigQuery) and Python, hands-on experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure), and expert use of version control systems (Gitlab, GitHub).
- Advanced Data Analysis & Software Engineering Foundation: Demonstrated success in quantitative analysis, working with large datasets to derive actionable insights, combined with essential experience in software engineering principles for building robust data products.
- Critical Thinking & Problem Solving: Exceptional critical thinking, problem-solving, and storytelling skills, with a strong detail orientation and the ability to take initiative on complex data challenges.
