Job Description
Hi there! Thanks for stopping by. Are you actively looking for a new opportunity or just checking the market? If so, you might be in the right place. We’re looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our Payments team in Canada and US.
In this role you will architect resilient systems and own the technical delivery of mission‑critical systems that process millions of daily transactions, ensuring settlement accountability and operational excellence at a global scale. You should be located in Canada and able to work within EST/EDT hours.
We offer a choice of fully remote, partially remote or fully office‑based work environments in cities with local offices.
Responsibilities Own the technical delivery of event‑based payment systems that handle millions of daily transactions and lead architectural decisions across the organization. Define and implement modern standards for AI‑enabled workflows, high‑availability, resilient deployments and metric‑driven stewardship (SLOs) required for global‑scale payment system reliability. Navigate from POC and experimentation to production, recommending the most effective paths with bold bets and clear, iterative line of sight while balancing rapid business value with long‑term system health.
Shape engineering and product strategy jointly, acting as a bridge between cross‑functional teams and a co‑author of technical roadmaps, a guardian of technical backlogs and a driving force behind engineering standards and cross‑team prioritization. Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and elevating the team’s skill set. Drive engineering velocity by owning platforms, shared frameworks and automated guardrails that reduce complexity at the edges and compound productivity.
Qualifications Extensive staff‑level experience, with a proven track record of leading large‑scale incidents and system failures, emerging with stronger architectures, sharper runbooks and lasting institutional knowledge. Deep proficiency in at least one relevant tech stack combined with a systems‑level mindset for complex full‑stack architectures. Hands‑on experience with AI‑assisted coding and deployment strategies that drive efficiency without sacrificing quality.
Strong communication skills, simplifying complex technical tradeoffs for stakeholders and peers, proactively identifying and communicating risks, and maintaining a flexible, data‑driven perspective. A principled but pragmatic technical lead with strong but weakly held opinions, ready to pivot when data shows a better path for the customer. A continuous force multiplier who solves problems and builds systems, tools and people around them.
An owner & advocate who acts with a sense of urgency and walks backward from the customer, treating the codebase, business strategy and stakeholders as if they were his own. A boundary‑spanning problem solver who operates across squads, turning solutions into primitives, platforms or patterns.
Experience in fintech or high‑scale tech (nice to have) with a history of working in environments that require deep intuition for data integrity and building automated reconciliation systems that are auditable by design.
Benefits Join a fast‑paced, high‑growth company. Work on systems that handle billions of dollars in transactions for merchants globally. Surround yourself with strong talent and enjoy continuous professional growth.
Great benefits and perks, including equity and flexible/hybrid remote work options, in a diverse and inclusive environment. Development of very high‑traffic products used at global scale. Opportunities to learn and expand your skill set.
