About Burk 1

Burk 1 is a specialized 17-bed Pulmonary Care Long-Term Care Unit where residents receive comprehensive nursing care in a supportive, home-like environment. Many residents are alert and oriented but require assistance managing chronic and acute medical conditions.

The unit also cares for residents with chronic tracheostomies, providing nurses with valuable experience in pulmonary and complex long-term care. Burk 1 utilizes a variety of specialty beds and equipment designed to support the unique clinical and physical needs of our residents.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Director of Nursing, the Licensed Practical Nurse utilizes nursing knowledge, clinical judgment, and assessment skills to develop and implement individualized care plans that meet the needs of residents.

The LPN attends to the daily operations of the unit on a shift-by-shift basis and may assume leadership responsibilities as needed to support quality resident care and efficient unit operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to residents in accordance with individualized care plans.
  • Monitor resident conditions and communicate changes to the healthcare team.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions safely and accurately.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of resident care plans.
  • Provide care for residents with chronic pulmonary conditions and tracheostomies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks appropriately to nursing assistants and support staff.
  • Promote resident safety, comfort, dignity, and quality of life.
  • Participate in shift reports, care conferences, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (Diploma or Practical Nursing Program).
  • Current Maryland Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) CPR Certification.
  • Less than one year of experience required; new graduates are encouraged to apply.
