Mission (of the Role)

To serve as a senior attorney responsible for trademark prosecution and enforcement matters, handling complex client work independently at a high standard of quality, responsiveness, and business judgment, while contributing to the firm’s growth.

The Law Office of Chun T. Wright’s (“CTW Law”) purpose is charting the way for trailblazers as they create the path to new, vital frontiers, with a mission to be the number one law firm for leading-edge industries including artificial intelligence (AI), technology, and videogames. The right hire does not simply fill a seat. They carry that standard forward.

Outcomes by Milestone

30 Days Has completed orientation to CTW Law’s files, systems, and client relationships. Has met key referral partners and understands the firm’s positioning and reputation. Is handling day-to-day correspondence, drafting, client communications, and discrete matters independently, with appropriate oversight to calibrate to firm standards around judgment, tone, and attention to detail.

60–90 Days Is operating with limited supervision and taking real ownership of a defined set of trademark prosecution and enforcement matters, including supervision of routine daily trademark work. Has introduced at least initial conversations with one or more contacts from their own network about the possibility of transitioning work to CTW Law.

6 Months Is functioning with true autonomy, running their own defined lane, assisting with quality control over the team’s work product, and freeing the founder from day-to-day involvement in those workstreams. Client feedback reflects the same standard of quality and responsiveness CTW Law is known for. Has begun contributing to business development efforts, including strengthening existing client relationships and exploring opportunities within their network.

12 Months Has contributed meaningfully to firm revenue, with a target contribution in the range of $250,000 to $300,000, sourced from a combination of existing client relationships the attorney brings, expanded work from firm clients, and new matters they help originate. This figure is the starting line, not the finish. Has demonstrated the cultural and professional fit that supports a conversation about long-term trajectory within the firm.

24 Months Longer-term expectation is growth to $500,000–$600,000 by Year 2.

Competencies

Must-Haves

  • Deep fluency in trademark prosecution and enforcement, including oppositions before the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office), cancellations, cease and desist matters, and related disputes.
  • 7–12+ years of trademark and IP experience, with strong background in both prosecution and enforcement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, clear, practical, and strategically sound, consistent with CTW Law’s established reputation.
  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • An existing solid book of business or demonstrable ability to originate and grow client relationships. A portable book in the $200,000–$500,000 range is preferred; candidates with strong growth potential will also be considered.
  • High autonomy and self-direction with an ability to work collaboratively with others at the firm and also be led. Comfort with clear ownership and accountability in a boutique environment, without reliance on committee-based decision-making.
  • Professional maturity and low-ego collaboration. Communicates directly and respectfully, handles feedback constructively, and contributes to a high-trust, low-drama working environment.
  • Tech savviness and genuine familiarity with AI tools and their application in legal practice. Ability to help build a nimble, tech-forward firm.
  • Interest in building within the firm, not operating in a silo. This hire is foundational to a larger, scalable team.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with anti-counterfeiting and anti-piracy enforcement at an international or cross-border level.
  • Familiarity with referral-based business development and an existing network within the trademark and broader IP community.
  • Experience with copyright as part of enforcement and brand protection strategy.
  • Connections to or bar eligibility in markets beyond D.C., particularly California and Texas.

Disqualifiers

  • Comfort only in large firm environments where support staff and bureaucracy absorb what this firm handles with agility.
  • A tendency to hide behind email when a direct conversation is called for.
  • Inability to sweat the details. Polish, precision, and integrity are non-negotiable.
  • Lack of interest in contributing to the long-term growth of the firm.
  • Tendency toward indirect communication, defensiveness, ego, or creating unnecessary interpersonal friction.
  • Lack of self-awareness. Transactional approach to relationships.

CTW Law Core Values

These values are operational, not aspirational. The right hire will recognize themselves in them.

Be a Good Steward.

The firm promotes wellbeing at every level: team, client, organizational, and community. When a problem surfaces, it is addressed quickly and professionally. Solutions come with the problems.

Be Nimble.

CTW Law is easy to work with, both internally and for clients and their clients downstream. The “Wright-sized” approach means agility over bureaucracy, and communication that is always digestible and direct. The firm thinks quickly, listens carefully, and offers options.

Act Courageously.

Hard things are not avoided here. Difficult conversations happen promptly and live, not hidden behind email. Ownership is taken. Help is asked for when needed.

Stay Adept.

Details matter. Commas matter. Polish and presentation matter. Over 90% of new business comes from repeat clients or referrals, a testament to the caliber of work and the client experience the firm consistently delivers. That is the bar.

The Opportunity

The IP practice spans trademark prosecution, enforcement, and disputes, with a client base that includes U.S. and international companies across technology, AI, software platforms, entertainment software, consumer goods, travel, outdoor recreation, and other leading-edge industries.

CTW Law is known for its responsiveness, attention to detail, and ability to combine legal precision with practical business judgment and advice. This standard is consistently recognized by clients and is expected of this role.

Partner Track

For the right candidate, this is not a lateral move. It is an opportunity to take on a meaningful role within a high-quality boutique firm, with a defined culture, a strong referral network, and a growing roster of innovative clients. For senior attorneys with proven business acumen and aligned values, there is a clear partner track. Long-term trajectory and ownership within the firm is available to the right person, earned through performance and cultural fit.

Role Structure & Logistics

Compensation

Compensation is structured on an entrepreneurial, performance-based model that rewards originated and managed work, with strong upside for high-performing Attorneys.

This is a non-salaried, 1099 role structured on a competitive fee-split and origination model for firm-originated and attorney-originated matters.

Location

Washington, D.C. area preferred (hybrid). Open to strong candidates in other U.S. markets, including California and Texas. Remote flexibility available depending on the candidate.
