Position Title: Assistant Manager – Civil & Structural Design
Experience: 5 to 7 Years
Function: Engineering / Design
Reporting To: Manager / Head – Civil & Structural
Role Purpose
The Assistant Manager – Civil & Structural Design will be responsible for planning, analysis, design, and review of civil and structural systems for industrial projects. The role involves technical leadership, design coordination, compliance with applicable codes, and interface with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, cost-effective, and constructible designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute civil and structural design activities for assigned projects from concept through detailed engineering.
- Perform structural analysis and design of RCC and steel structures including foundations, buildings, sheds, equipment supports, and underground structures.
- Prepare and review design calculations, drawings, specifications, BOQs, and technical documents.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Indian and international codes (IS, ACI, ASTM, Eurocodes where applicable).
- Coordinate with architectural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and process teams for integrated design delivery.
- Review and approve drawings and calculations prepared by junior engineers and external consultants.
- Provide technical support during construction, including resolving site queries, design modifications, and value engineering proposals.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZIDs, and constructability assessments.
- Monitor design schedules, deliverables, and ensure adherence to quality and safety standards.
- Interface with clients, contractors, and third-party consultants on technical matters.
- Contribute to design standardization, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support tendering and estimation activities, including review of specifications and preliminary designs.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (mandatory)
- Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering (preferred)
Experience Requirements
- 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in civil and structural design
- Experience in industrial, oil & gas projects preferred
- Exposure to both design office and site support activities is desirable
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in structural design and analysis software such as STAAD or similar
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD; familiarity with BIM tools (REVIT, Tekla) is an advantage
- Strong understanding of soil-structure interaction and foundation design
- Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry best practices
- Ability to interpret geotechnical reports and integrate them into design
- Familiarity with QA/QC processes and design documentation control
