Labcorp is seeking an Executive Director, Enterprise AI to join our team in Durham, NC

Work Schedule: Durham, NC / Hybrid | Full-time | Reports to: Chief AI Officer | Travel: 40-50%

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Lead the enterprise AI portfolio, demand management, prioritization, and investment planning, maintaining a single source of truth for AI initiatives, value, risks, and dependencies.  
  • Drive enterprise-wide AI governance, funding, and value realization frameworks in partnership with Finance, Legal, Privacy, and business leaders.  
  • Oversee AI investment decisions, benefit tracking, ROI measurement, and portfolio performance to ensure sustainable business outcomes and scalable impact.  
  • Establish governance forums and executive operating rhythms to align AI strategy, risk management, regulatory compliance, and organizational priorities.  
  • Ensure enterprise readiness and compliance with applicable healthcare, privacy, regulatory, and AI governance standards, including HIPAA, FDA, CLIA, CAP, HITRUST, NIST AI RMF, and EU AI Act.  
  • Develop executive and board-level reporting, translating complex AI initiatives into clear business value, risk, and progress narratives.  
  • Lead the operating model for the AI organization, driving cross-functional collaboration, accountability, decision execution, and strategic program delivery.  
  • Own enterprise AI enablement, including AI tool governance, intake processes, adoption measurement, support models, and federated execution frameworks.  
  • Drive AI adoption, change management, and organizational capability building through champion networks, community engagement, and enterprise communications.  
  • Define and communicate the enterprise AI vision, strategy, and thought leadership agenda across employees, executives, customers, partners, analysts, and industry forums.  
  • Partner with Corporate Communications, HR, Investor Relations, and business leaders to deliver a consistent and compelling AI narrative that strengthens organizational reputation and market leadership.  
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the Chief AI Officer (CAIO), supporting enterprise-wide transformation, investment decisions, executive reviews, and board engagements. 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree  
  • 15 or more years of experience in technology, digital, AI, data, enterprise strategy, transformation, portfolio management, or operating-model leadership, including running operating rhythms, leadership reviews, planning cycles, and executive preparation. 
  • 10 or more years of experience running complex portfolios, prioritization processes, investment routines, funding gates, operating cadences, or transformation governance. 
  • 10 or more years of experience of demonstrated ability to move organizations from ambition to execution, adoption, and sustained value realization. 

  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • MBA, MS, or an advanced degree in strategy, technology, engineering, finance, operations, or enterprise transformation  
  • 5 or more years of experience in healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated industries. 
  • 5 or more years of experience building AI portfolios, governance models, or AI CoEs. 
  • 5 or more years of experience supporting C-suite executives and board-level engagements. 

Additional Job Standards 

  • Strong value-engineering and financial discipline across business cases, value models, ROI frameworks, benefit tracking, and funding gates, with the ability to partner credibly with Finance and the CFO organization so value claims and realized-value reporting stand up to scrutiny. 
  • Experience running risk or compliance governance and executive or board reporting, ideally in partnership with Legal and Privacy. 
  • Deep AI expertise across the enterprise stack, including Microsoft 365 Copilot with Purview and Entra governance, developer AI environments, general-purpose assistants, and enterprise agentic platforms, with the operating knowledge required to evaluate, roll out, and govern these systems at Fortune 500 scale. 
  • Active and defensible point of view on the foundation model landscape across OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Google DeepMind, Meta, Mistral, and enterprise-tuned variants, including the trade-offs across capability, cost, latency, safety posture, and deployment surface. The Company remains model-agnostic and selects the best model for the workload, and this leader is expected to shape that selection with the Company's strategic cloud partners. 
  • Working command of evaluation and safety discipline, agent orchestration and agent operational risk, AI unit economics across compute and licensing, and the production realities of running enterprise AI at scale. 
  • Strong systems-thinking capability across workflows, dependencies, constraints, incentives, economics, and value drivers. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, with the ability to craft executive and board narratives largely independently. 
  • Executive presence and the ability to lead through influence without relying on formal authority, with high trust, discretion, and maturity in handling confidential information and executive dynamics. 
  • Demonstrated ownership and accountability for outcomes, persisting until value is realized. 
  • Strong partnership with Finance, Legal, and Privacy teams. 
  • External AI thought leadership through speaking, publishing, or industry forums.
