Manager, Mechanical Engineering

📍 Canada (Full-Time | Onsite)

We're partnering with an innovative organization in the Aerospace & Defense industry that is seeking an experienced Manager, Mechanical Engineering to lead a talented engineering team developing advanced electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical systems.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a technical leader who enjoys mentoring engineers, driving innovation, and leading complex product development from concept through production.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and develop a high-performing Mechanical Engineering team while fostering collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.
  • Provide technical leadership for the design and development of complex electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical systems.
  • Ensure the overall mechanical design integrity of products throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Lead conceptual design, detailed design, engineering validation, and new product introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and establish engineering best practices, processes, and standards.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, engineering estimates, and resource planning.
  • Support hiring, mentoring, performance management, and career development of engineering staff.
  • Identify and implement new engineering tools, technologies, and design methodologies to improve efficiency and product quality.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing, Sales, Proposals, Compliance, and other cross-functional teams to support successful product delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes and product development.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (advanced degree is a plus).
  • 9+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, including leadership or management responsibilities.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams in a complex product development environment.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical system design
  • Optical principles and precision mechanical design
  • Machining, casting, sheet metal, composites, and manufacturing processes
  • Rapid prototyping and product development
  • Materials science, corrosion, coatings, and surface treatments
  • Hands-on experience with SolidWorks CAD.
  • Experience with:
  • Structural, thermal, and CFD analysis (FEA)
  • Vibration analysis and testing
  • Motion system design and analysis
  • Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
