Nurse Practitioner

Education: Master's degree. Work setting: Physician's office. Private practice. Tasks: Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary health team. Coordinate patient care. Evaluate patient care and progress. Implement an interdisciplinary plan of care. Interpret medical test results . Monitor patients and advise physician of any changes in patients' condition. Order medical diagnostic or clinical tests. Plan patient care. Advise patients on drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs. Ensure infection control. Care for, assess and monitor the health of newborns and refer infants to appropriate medical services as required. Provide primary, full-course, care to women and their babies during pregnancy, labour, birth and the post-natal period including monitoring the health of mother and baby. Examine patients and take their medical histories and consult with physicians and other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health. Order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures. Conduct patient interviews, physical assessments and take medical histories. Inoculate and vaccinate patients to prevent and treat diseases. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certificate. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate. CPR Certificate. Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner by the province/territory of work. Security and safety: Criminal record check.
