Job description
Turning Space into a Transportation Layer for Earth
Who We Are:
Inversion builds advanced reentry systems to deliver next-generation capabilities from space.
Our mission is to make Earth radically more accessible by turning Low-Earth Orbit into an on-demand logistics domain. We see space not as a destination, but as a platform — one that unlocks unprecedented speed and global reach.
Our spacecraft are designed to deliver payloads anywhere on Earth in under an hour, operating through extreme reentry conditions and landing with high precision. These systems open the door to new ways of testing, delivering, and operating at hypersonic speeds.
Inherently dual-use, our technology is built to meet urgent national security needs while laying the groundwork for future commercial applications. Backed by leading investors including Y Combinator, Spark Capital, and Lockheed Martin Ventures, and working with partners such as the U.S. Space Force and NASA, Inversion is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in space-based defense and logistics.
What You'll Do
As an Avionics Build and Integration Engineer at Inversion, you will report directly to the Manager of Arc Vehicle Avionics. In this role, you will own the physical build, wiring, and vehicle-level integration of the avionics and electrical subsystems for the Arc hypersonic reentry vehicle. You will act as the bridge between electrical design and physical flight hardware, routing complex harnesses, mounting flight computers and batteries, and resolving technical integration challenges directly on the floor. You will collaborate closely with both the centralized Platform Avionics team and the production floor to deliver high-reliability flight electronics.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the physical integration, mechanical packaging, and routing of avionics hardware, sensors, and electrical harnesses on the Arc vehicle.
- Develop, release, and execute detailed manufacturing work instructions and assembly procedures for flight batteries, power distribution units, flight computers, and RF systems.
- Perform hands-on electrical assembly tasks, including high-reliability wire crimping, connector pinning, soldering, and mechanical assembly of ruggedized electronics.
- Execute electrical continuity, isolation, bonding, and initial power-on testing of vehicle avionics and subsystems on the integration floor.
- Support the setup, calibration, and operation of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testbeds and electrical ground support equipment (GSE) for avionics checkout.
- Troubleshoot electrical anomalies, sensor drops, and harnessing non-conformances on the integration floor in real-time.
- Coordinate with the centralized Production team to ensure avionics assemblies and harness runs meet aerospace quality and inspection standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
- Typically 2+ years of hands-on experience in avionics assembly, electrical integration, and troubleshooting of high-reliability hardware.
- Strong practical electrical skills, including harness routing, connector pinning, wire crimping, and reading electrical schematics.
- Experience using electronic test equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and breakout boxes.
- Familiarity with mechanical assembly and packaging of ruggedized electronic components.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with spacecraft, launch vehicle, or high-reliability tactical electronics integration.
- Familiarity with aerospace standards for harnessing and soldering.
- Experience with RF systems, antennas, and coaxial cable routing/testing.
- Prior experience working in a fast-paced, high-mix/low-volume startup environment.
