Job description

Intrinsic is an AI robotics group at Google aiming to reimagine the potential of industrial robotics. Our team believes that advances in AI, perception and simulation will redefine what’s possible for industrial robotics in the near future – with software and data at the core.

Our mission is to make industrial robotics intelligent, accessible, and usable for millions more businesses, entrepreneurs, and developers. We are a dynamic team of engineers, roboticists, designers, and technologists who are passionate about unlocking the creative and economic potential of industrial robotics.

Role

As a Robotics Systems Engineer, you will build the connection between our web-based software and the physical hardware on the manufacturing floor. You are responsible for ensuring that when an operator interacts with our interface, the robotic system responds instantly and safely, from synchronizing data records to controlling physical signal lights. You will own the entire lifecycle of a command, ensuring it is authorized, recorded, and executed correctly even if the network is unstable. Your work ensures that our software is a reliable and intuitive controller for the next generation of physical automation.

How your work moves the mission forward

  • Implement secure login and identity systems that manage user access levels and ensure only authorized personnel can trigger physical hardware actions.
  • Develop the control logic that bridges the web interface to physical hardware components, including status lights, emergency stops, and operator consoles.
  • Architect resilient data systems that store robot telemetry locally during network outages and synchronize with the cloud once a connection is restored.
  • Build the backend infrastructure required to support multi-tenant environments, ensuring strict data isolation and security between different customers.
  • Design reliable communication pathways between web browsers and hardware controllers to ensure low-latency feedback for the operator.
  • Create detailed audit logs that link every physical hardware action back to a specific, authenticated user for safety and forensic review.

Skills you will need to be successful

  • Professional experience designing and implementing granular user permissions and access control levels within a multi-user software environment.
  • Proficiency in interfacing software with physical hardware through digital inputs and outputs (such as controlling lights, switches, or sensors).
  • Expertise in fullstack development, moving comfortably between server-side logic (Python or C++) and client-side web applications (TypeScript).
  • Practical experience with network communication protocols used to send data between different pieces of hardware and software.

Skills that will differentiate your candidacy

  • Experience with industrial communication standards used to talk to factory equipment and hardware controllers.
  • Understanding of distributed systems and how to resolve data conflicts with multi user access.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems or high-performance messaging systems for low-latency control.
  • Previous experience building industrial human-machine interfaces or control panels for complex machinery.
  • Familiarity with modern build and deployment tools (such as Bazel or containerization) to manage complex, multi-component software.
