Job Description
Technical Writers create reusable content to help a variety of audiences easily learn to use InterSystems products. They present complex material to their target audiences. They participate fully in development teams.
The writer performs the following tasks:
- Takes long-term responsibility for a specific, significant subject area. Attends development project meetings and conveys status to other content creators.
- Works on product documentation that describes new features and enhancements for each release. Updates and improves existing documentation on an ongoing basis.
- Researches technical material from diverse sources. Produces coherent, well-structured documentation that defines use cases and describes how to solve problems associated with them.
- Collaborates with the online learning, classroom training, and certification groups to maximize reuse for multiple audiences. May participate in the development of other learning materials.
- Works with stakeholders and mentors to determine the appropriate schedule for documentation projects. Sets priorities, triages incoming tasks, and rebalances workloads effectively.
- Becomes generally knowledgeable about InterSystems products and develops secondary areas of expertise.
- Works to improve documentation quality, process, productivity, and presentation. Raises documentation and cross-departmental issues, and helps resolve them.
Essential Qualifications
- Demonstrated effectiveness in using a variety of computer systems and software
- Excellent writing ability
- Superior interpersonal communication skills
- Basic grasp of technical terminology and concepts
- Willingness and interest in developing autonomy and self-direction in the workplace
- Willingness to learn new concepts and about new technologies
Desirable Qualifications
Previous experience with any of the following areas is a plus:
- Technical writing or similar activities
- Database administration and management
- Cloud-based computing including microservices architecture, Kubernetes, and SaaS/PaaS
- Popular programming languages such as Python and Java
- AI or machine learning
- FHIR, IHE, or HL7
- API management
- SQL
- Object-oriented programming
- Security
- Large enterprise systems or high availability systems
- InterSystems products
Previous work experience of the following types is also a strong plus:
- As a developer
- Writing tutorials or programming examples
- Developing content for online learning
- As a technical editor, or with reviews by a technical editor
Education and Training
Required: University degree or equivalent experience

InterSystems is providing a current good faith estimate of the anticipated base salary range for this position depending on a variety of factors including experience, education, skills, and performance.
Other compensation may include a discretionary annual variable target incentive.
