We are hiring a Mechanical QA / Commissioning Specialist to support large-scale construction and commissioning activities for a major project in the DC Metro area. This is a fully hands-off role focused on quality assurance, compliance, and documentation of mechanical systems during installation and commissioning phases. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with strong exposure to building systems, commissioning workflows, and construction QA processes.

Overview / Job Description

This role is responsible for ensuring mechanical systems—including HVAC, chilled water, and boiler systems—are installed and commissioned in accordance with project specifications, codes, and contract requirements. The position works heavily with documentation, drawing reviews, submittal validation, and commissioning support activities such as pre-functional checklists (PFCs) and functional performance testing (FPTs).

The role operates primarily during night shift hours to align with active construction schedules and minimize operational disruptions.

Key Responsibilities

• Review mechanical submittals to ensure alignment with project specifications and contract requirements
• Interpret construction drawings and validate system installations for compliance
• Support commissioning activities including pre-functional checklists (PFCs) and functional performance testing (FPTs)
• Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of system performance and commissioning results
• Perform QA validation across HVAC, chilled water, boiler, and plumbing systems
• Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and commissioning agents to address deficiencies
• Monitor adherence to mechanical and plumbing codes
• Maintain organized commissioning documentation and final reporting deliverables

Required Skills

• Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS)
• Strong understanding of chilled water systems and boiler operations
• Hands-on commissioning experience (PFCs, FPTs, final documentation)
• Ability to review mechanical submittals against project specifications
• Proficiency reading and interpreting construction drawings
• Knowledge of mechanical and plumbing codes for building systems

Plusses

• Experience with QA/QC processes on large-scale construction projects
• Prior experience working night shift or off-hours construction schedules
• Background working with third-party commissioning agents or owner’s representatives
• Certifications such as CxA, LEED, or relevant trade licenses
