The Role: The Senior Specialist, Operational Data & Metrics role is accountable for the ongoing Mackenzie Retail commission calculation, modeling, and validation process, ensuring accurate, timely, and well governed incentive outcomes for Mackenzie Investments’ Retail Distribution teams. The Senior Specialist acts as the subject matter expert on commission logic, models, data aggregation and calculations, partnering closely with Finance, Retail Sales, and Human Resources.
This is a high impact, highly visible role for a data driven professional who enjoys owning complex frameworks and influencing how performance is measured and rewarded across a national distribution team. This role sits at the intersection of data, incentives, and decision making. You’ll own a critical commission framework that directly impacts sales behaviour and leadership decisions, while helping modernize how incentive data is governed, automated, and analyzed across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and continuously evolve the end‑to‑end commission calculation framework, acting as the recognized subject matter expert for commission logic, controls, and data integrity
- Manage operational data workflows and oversee accurate and timely calculations for complex commissions processes
- Assess, design, and implement model changes driven by annual commission plan design and mid-year updates
- Analyze large, complex datasets to identify business trends, key performance indicators, and performance drivers, preparing and delivering insights to senior leadership
- Design scalable, well‑controlled analytical models using Excel (Power Query, advanced formulas, VBA, pivots), with opportunities to influence a strategic incentive tooling modernization project
- Partner with senior leaders across Finance, Sales, and Human Resources to assess incentive design impacts, model scenarios, and inform business decision; gather requirements to develop, test and implement high-quality solutions
- Conduct exploratory analysis using tools like Power BI/Tableau to support strategic planning, operational forecasting and performance measurement
- Maintain clear documentation of commission logic, assumptions, dependencies, and controls
- Deliver high‑quality, executive‑ready presentations and storytelling on commission outcomes, trends, and insights
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field
- Strong experience designing, validating, and governing incentive compensation or commission models (experience in financial services, wealth or asset management is strongly preferred)
- A control‑oriented mindset with the confidence to challenge assumptions and improve processes
- Advanced Excel expertise, including complex formulas, large-scale models, reconciliation logic and embedded controls
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex data and commission logic into clear, concise, executive‑level insights
- Strong knowledge of wealth and asset management products, markets, and distribution business models
- High attention to detail paired with the ability to think strategically and see the broader context
- Demonstrated expertise in financial modeling, scenario analysis, and decision support
The expected annual base salary range for this role is $65,000 - $91,00 which is determined based on skills, knowledge and experience and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for annual short-term incentive, health and well-being benefits, retirement and savings plan, paid time off and career development.
