Job description
As a Senior Program Manager, you will lead large, complex programs within our portfolio. This is a high-impact role at the center of a collaborative, mission-driven team — one that partners closely with global reference lab operations, enterprise programs, and cross-functional business teams across Europe to drive structured, successful program execution.
Why this role matters:
As a Senior Program Manager, you will own a significant, multi-workstream initiative in its own right Your primary focus will be on Reference Lab efforts — including lab deployment, enterprise transformation, Customer Experience (CX) programs, and instrument implementation — while also contributing to broader CAG Dx (Companion Animal Group) BU PMO (Business Unit, Project Management Office) priorities as capacity and business needs allow. This is a role where your ability to manage stakeholders, communicate with confidence, and drive accountability across a complex program will be just as important as your program management toolkit.
In This Role:
Lead Program Planning and Delivery
You will own the full lifecycle of a large, complex program — from scoping and planning through implementation, closeout, and handoff — ensuring delivery against scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards across all workstreams.
You will build and maintain a comprehensive program plan spanning multiple interdependent workstreams, deliverables, milestones, and resource assignments aligned to business objectives and PMO (Project Management Office) standards.
You will own program-level budget forecasting, tracking, and financial reporting across the full scope of the program.
You will proactively identify and manage risks, issues, and dependencies across workstreams; escalate where appropriate and drive timely resolution.
You will conduct assurance reviews and manage program closeout, including documentation, lessons learned, and transition to business as usual.
Engage and Align Stakeholders
You will develop and execute stakeholder engagement plans across a complex, matrixed organization spanning Europe and global reference lab operations — building strong relationships with regional business leaders, lab operations teams, technology partners, and others.
You will lead program meetings and communications across all workstreams, driving clear decision-making, action items follow-through, and effective escalation.
You will prepare and deliver regular status updates, executive-level review reports, and presentations tailored to a range of audiences, from workstream teams to senior leadership.
You will anticipate and balance competing stakeholder needs across a large, multi-region program; manage expectations with transparency and confidence.
You will represent the CAG Dx BU PMO in European regional forums and coordinate closely with the broader global PMO team on shared priorities.
Manage Requirements and Change
You will coordinate requirements gathering, analysis, documentation, and management across the program lifecycle.
You will identify, manage, and control scope and program changes using established change control processes; obtain approvals as required.
You will ensure program documentation meets organizational standards and any applicable regulatory or compliance requirements.
You will establish and institutionalize governance frameworks, templates, and reporting practices that improve predictability and consistency across the program and the broader PMO.
You will bring fluency with agile ways of working — comfortable partnering with agile delivery teams on sprint and release visibility, backlog health, and ceremonies — alongside more traditional program governance.
Contribute to Team and Portfolio Success
You will lead and coordinate a large, cross-functional program team; communicate vision and outcomes, coordinate team actions, and build capability through coaching and mentoring — including mentoring other project and program managers across the PMO.
You will contribute to PMO continuous improvement by sharing insights, identifying process opportunities, and supporting a culture of accountability and excellence.
You will bring flexibility to work across the CAG Dx BU program and broader PMO priorities as capacity allows, supporting cross-training and portfolio depth across the team.
What You Will Need to Succeed:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
6–10+ years of progressive program or project management experience, with demonstrated ability to independently lead a large, complex, multi-workstream program in a matrixed, global environment.
Experience managing program-level budgets, forecasting, and financial reporting.
Comfortable partnering with agile delivery teams and working with sprint/release cadences, in addition to more traditional program structures.
Strong understanding of program and project management methodologies, tools, and best practices; proficiency in program management and collaboration software (e.g., Smartsheet, Jira, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint).
Experience in healthcare, life sciences, laboratory operations, or diagnostics environments strongly preferred.
Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent experience preferred.
This role is based in or near an IDEXX Europe location (e.g., Hoofddorp, Netherlands), working in a hybrid capacity, with a minimum of eight days a month on-site. Able to travel up to 10% as needed.
Skills and Competencies
Prioritize and plan work across a large, complex program; stays focused under change and looks ahead to secure resources needed to meet commitments.
Consistently delivers program-level outcomes even under tough circumstances; brings urgency and focus to goals and commitments across all workstreams.
Cuts through complexity to identify root causes and drive effective solutions across a large-scale, multi-workstream program.
Anticipates and manages the needs of multiple senior stakeholders across business, regional, and functional lines; finds well-balanced solutions.
Delivers clear, confident communications adapted to diverse audiences — from workstream teams to senior leadership.
Establishes and institutionalizes frameworks and reporting practices that raise delivery maturity across the program and the broader PMO.
Holds self and others accountable; takes ownership of outcomes and follows through on commitments.
Inspires and aligns cross-functional and cross-regional teams toward shared goals, and mentors other project and program managers, without direct reporting relationships.
Flexibly adjusts approach in real time to match shifting demands across a large, complex, multi-region program.
