Swine Herdsperson/R & D Technician

Hendrix Genetics Swine (Hypor Inc.), a world class multi-species breeding company, is currently looking to fill the full-time one-year term position of Swine Herdsperson/R&D Technician at our Bon Accord Nucleus Facility near Ituna, Saskatchewan. Specific responsibilities for this position include providing support on Research & Development programs and assisting with other barn duties at the Bon Accord Nucleus Facility. This position reports to the Farm Manager – Bon Accord and the R & D Geneticist.

Key Responsibilities:

· Ensure registration and capturing of infrared images and weights in the probing area.

· Check and validate that images are successfully uploaded into the database.

· Assist in weighing gilts in the GDU (pre-training, training, to breeding)

· Assist in weighing sows in and out of Breeding and Farrowing.

· Ensure all data records (infrared images, weight, heat dates, scale calibration and study logs) are accurate and maintained in a timely manner.

· Assist in On-Test activity by registering weights, tagging and pushing piglets.

· Assist in re-weights for younger piglets.

· Manage treatment of animals

· Perform other activities that the Farm Manager may require.

Specific Tasks:

· Ensure R&D protocols are strictly followed.

· Maintain close contact with the external R&D team.

· Handle washing, calibration and maintenance of scales and feed stations (Breeding, Gestation and Farrowing)

· Administer vaccines to piglets and sows as required.

· Treat injury and ailments of animals in the area as required.

· Monitor ventilation and feed drop for each room in the area.

· Assist in designation and movement of animals

· Maintain and follow all production, health, and safety protocols.

Technical Knowledge:

• Knowledgeable in Swine Production and MS office proficient

Education (Minimum Level):

• Grade 12
• Swine Technician prefer
• At least 1 year of experience working in barn setting

What we have to offer:

• Competitive pay at $22.00/hour, full-time, one year-term position, 40.0 hours per week or 80.0 hours biweekly.
