Senior Labour Relations Specialist

Our client in the broader public sector is seeking an experienced Senior Labour Relations Specialist for a short-term assignment.

This is a hands‑on senior advisory role supporting complex labour relations matters in a unionized environment. The Specialist will work closely with HR and leadership to help implement newly negotiated collective agreements, provide guidance on grievances, discipline, and contract interpretation, and support the resolution of workplace and union matters.

You will provide senior labour relations expertise to managers and HR partners, helping navigate employee relations issues while ensuring compliance with collective agreements, Ontario labour legislation, and organizational policies. The role will also support union discussions, labour relations strategy, and initiatives that strengthen labour‑management collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands‑on labour relations advice and guidance to managers and HR teams in a unionized environment
  • Support the implementation and interpretation of collective agreements across the organization
  • Manage and advise on grievances, discipline, and dispute resolution processes
  • Partner with leadership and union representatives to address complex workplace matters
  • Assist with labour relations strategy, reporting, and policy development

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive labour relations experience in a unionized environment
  • Experience supporting collective agreement implementation and grievance management
  • Professional HR designation (CHRP/CHRL) or working toward one is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario labour legislation and collective bargaining practices
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and advisory skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
