Backend Engineer

Role: Backend Engineer Location: Remote Employment Type: Full-time

Compensation: Competitive salary commensurate with experience, qualifications, and location. Indicative range: $105,000 – $170,000 (USD equivalent), plus benefits.

Role Overview

We are hiring a Backend Engineer to design and build the services that power our product. The role focuses on APIs, data systems, and the infrastructure choices that shape what's possible at the surface.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services, APIs, and data systems
• Model data and design APIs that scale with the product
• Write clean, well-tested code with sensible architectural choices
• Diagnose and resolve performance and reliability issues
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to architectural decisions
• Partner with frontend, infrastructure, and product teams

Required Skills and Qualifications

• 3+ years building production backend systems
• Strong proficiency in at least one server-side language (Python, Go, Java, Node.js)
• Solid understanding of relational and non-relational databases
• Experience designing REST or GraphQL APIs
• Familiarity with cloud services and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Strong system design fundamentals
