Job Description
A New York hedge fund is seeking a Trading Assistant to support a team of Rates/Fixed Income Portfolio Managers. This is a fast-paced, front-office role that sits directly on the trading desk and plays a critical part in the day-to-day management of trading activity, risk monitoring, and operational execution.
The successful candidate will work closely with portfolio managers and traders to ensure accurate trade capture, monitor intraday risk, analyze trade flows, and maintain the integrity of positions across internal and external systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and technically capable professional looking to build a career on a buy-side trading desk.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support portfolio managers and traders across Fixed Income and Rates trading strategies
- Monitor intraday and end-of-day risk exposures across portfolios
- Analyze trade flows and execution activity to support trading decisions
- Perform daily position reconciliations between internal systems, counterparties, and prime brokers
- Ensure accurate trade capture and booking across trading and risk systems
- Assist with trade execution workflows, allocations, and lifecycle management
- Investigate and resolve breaks, discrepancies, and operational issues
- Maintain and improve position management and reporting processes
- Work closely with operations, technology, and risk teams to ensure smooth trading desk functionality
- Build automation tools and analytics using Python to improve workflow efficiency and data analysis
Requirements
- 2-6 years of experience in a trading assistant, middle office, or trading support role within fixed income or rates
- Strong understanding of fixed income products, interest rate markets, and trading workflows
- Experience with trade capture, position reconciliation, and risk monitoring
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to operate in a high-pressure trading environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Python programming skills with the ability to build automation tools, scripts, or data analysis workflows
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with front-office teams
- Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field
