Job description

We take play seriously. We’re looking for curious adventurers ready to find their party, fueled by imagination and drive to build what’s never been built before. At Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, you’ll collaborate with passionate teams to reimagine our iconic brands and create experiences that spark joy, connection, and community through the magic of play. This is your chance to shape legendary play that lasts a lifetime.

At Wizards of the Coast, we connect people around the world through play and imagination. From our genre-defining games like Magic: The Gathering® and Dungeons & Dragons® to our growing multiverse, we continue to innovate and build new ways to foster friendship and connection. That’s where you come in!

Magic: The Gathering Arena is a live-service digital adaptation of the world’s most iconic collectible card game. On Arena’s feature team, “we work with a diverse group of engineers, artists, designers, and QA” to bring the tabletop experience to a digital product for a huge, thriving community.

A digital UX Designer on Arena, will craft and own end-to-end player experiences—partnering with product, design, art, engineering, and QA to ship high-quality, intuitive, and accessible experiences for millions of dedicated players!

What You'll Do:

  • Own and improve end-to-end UX design for Arena features from concept to implementation, prioritized by Product Owners and in alignment with the Director of UX.
  • Design clear, scalable interaction patterns across sophisticated systems (collection, deck-building, events, store, onboarding).
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to plan, develop through cycles, and ship player-facing features. (feature design, UX/UI, engineering, art, production, QA.)
  • Use design reviews, playtests, player research, and analytics to identify friction and drive measurable UX improvements.
  • Develop prototypes to validate solutions to de-risk design decisions and align implementation.
  • Contribute to and evolve Arena’s UI/UX standards (patterns, guidelines, documentation), helping keep the experience consistent as the game grows.

What You'll Bring:

  • 3+ years of UX or interaction design experience, with shipped work in games or sophisticated consumer products.
  • Experience in crafting strategies for intricate platforms and multi-phase processes.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and partner optimally with design, engineering, and product.
  • Ability to design for sophisticated systems and multi-step flows, balancing clarity, delight, and constraints.
  • Proficiency with modern design/prototyping tools—Figma is essential—and comfort collaborating in cross-functional workflows.
  • Comfort operating in an agile, iterative environment and prioritizing effectively.

Bonus Points:

  • Passion for Magic: The Gathering and/or trading card games.
  • Contributed to a cross-platform UX for live games, delivering responsive experiences that feel native across PC and mobile platforms.
  • Figma and Unity experience on a shipped digital product (live-service experience is a plus).
  • Accessibility experience (WCAG principles; inclusive design audits and improvements).
  • Familiarity with the European Accessibility Act (EAA).
  • Familiarity with user experience iteration based on data insights.
  • Experience with research methodologies (e.g., usability tests, interviews, surveys) and interest in helping enable a growing usability research practice.

Measures of success (first 90–180 days)

  • Ships at least one meaningful UX improvement or feature slice with strong cross-functional alignment.
  • Establish strong working relationships with cross-functional partners through clear communication, rapid iteration, and reliable follow-through.
  • Contributes to consistency: improves patterns or documentation to reduce rework and speed up production.
