Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled VMware Engineer with an active Top Secret (TS) clearance to support mission-critical infrastructure within a secure federal environment. This role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining virtualized environments that support enterprise and defense-focused systems.
The ideal candidate has deep experience with VMware technologies, strong systems engineering fundamentals, and the ability to operate in classified environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain VMware virtual environments (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)
- Manage and optimize virtual machines, clusters, and storage solutions
- Support system performance tuning, capacity planning, and high availability configurations
- Implement and maintain VMware Horizon / VDI environments (if applicable)
- Perform system upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management
- Troubleshoot virtualization, networking, and storage issues across secure environments
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with DoD and DISA STIGs
- Support disaster recovery (DR) and backup solutions
- Participate in system audits, accreditation, and compliance activities
- Document system architecture, configurations, and procedures
Required Qualifications
- Active Top Secret (TS) clearance (required)
- 5+ years of experience with VMware technologies
- Strong experience with:
- VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter
- Virtual networking and storage (vSAN, NSX preferred)
- Experience operating within DoD or federal environments
- Familiarity with STIGs, RMF, and security compliance requirements
- Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
- Experience with Windows and/or Linux server environments
- Ability to work onsite in a secure facility
Preferred Qualifications
- VMware certifications (VCP, VCAP, or higher)
- Experience with:
- VMware NSX (network virtualization)
- Automation tools (PowerCLI, Ansible, Terraform)
- Backup/DR tools (Veeam, SRM, etc.)
- Exposure to cloud environments (AWS GovCloud, Azure Gov)
- Experience supporting DISA, DoD, or IC customers
