Job Title: Chemical Engineer (Process Systems Focus) Location: Northwest Suburbs of Chicago Industry: Industrial Air Pollution Control / Process Systems
A well-established, privately held engineering firm is seeking a Chemical Engineer to support the design and implementation of advanced process systems used in industrial air pollution control applications. This organization, BACT Process Systems, is known for delivering highly customized solutions to manufacturing clients across multiple industries.
This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects where chemical engineering principles directly impact system performance, environmental compliance, and client success.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize chemical process systems for air pollution control (scrubbers, absorbers, thermal oxidizers, etc.)
- Perform mass and energy balances, reaction kinetics analysis, and process modeling
- Support process design calculations, including fluid flow, heat transfer, and chemical treatment efficiency
- Collaborate with mechanical and project engineers on system integration and equipment sizing
- Evaluate chemical compatibility, reagent selection, and waste stream treatment methods
- Assist in troubleshooting and improving existing systems for performance and compliance
- Interface with clients to understand process requirements and provide technical solutions
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (required)
- 5+ years of experience in process engineering, preferably in environmental, air pollution control, or chemical processing industries
- Strong understanding of:
- Fluid dynamics and gas/liquid interaction systems
- Reaction engineering and separation processes
- Heat and mass transfer principles
- Experience with scrubber systems, VOC control, or emissions treatment is highly preferred
- Proficiency in engineering calculations and process simulation tools
