About The Role
As the Process and Utilities Manager/DGM, you will lead both internal and external teams in the design, procurement and delivery of process and utilities equipment for capacity and new product development (NPD) projects, from the planning and capital expenditure (capex) preparation stages to operationalisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and installation:
- Design and install process equipment and utilities
- Establish and monitor performance metrics
- Provide post-installation support during product production and capacity expansion projects within approved budgets and timelines
- Performance improvement:
- Proactively explore and apply new methods/technology to improve performance and reduce utility and manufacturing costs
- Take responsibility for validating the performance of selected solutions in coordination with suppliers and the internal team
- Project delivery
- Ensure timely delivery and commissioning of process equipment/utilities for all projects
- Participate in department review meetings to understand critical project deliverables regarding performance
- Focus on scaling up new products from lab to plant scale
- Data collection and technology transfer
- Collect data required for process improvements or modifications
- Generate technology transfer data from R&D Pilot Plant scale for commercial plant applications
- Float inquiries for all process and utilities requirements
- Vendor coordination
- Complete technical bids and coordinate with the procurement team for commercial bids and closure discussions
- Approve equipment drawings and monitor progress at supplier facilities through regular communication
- Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) alongside operations and quality teams
- Safety and compliance
- Ensure machines and equipment meet minimum safety standards and are energy-efficient
- Enable IoT/digital features in selected equipment
- Provide safety technical input for capital projects to ensure 100% compliance with safety standards
- Consultant and contractor management
- Finalize civil, mechanical, and piping consultants/contractors for project execution
- Prepare project scoping documents and finalize standards/specifications for various activities
- Project planning and execution
- Focus on meticulous planning with detailed tasks, timelines and dependencies using software tools
- Ensure vendors/contractors sign NDAs and provide necessary guarantees (ABG, PBG) as per contract terms
- Manage critical situations in projects and remove constraints through possibility thinking
- Financial management
- Conduct financial modeling and manage financial aspects, including calculating ROI, payback and cost-benefit analysis
- Verify invoices and bills raised by contractors/service providers and ensure timely payments in coordination with the finance team
- Risk management
- Identify risk areas early and develop a risk management plan to mitigate potential risks throughout the project lifecycle
- Expected deliverables:
- Ensure "Zero Injury" at the project site
- Finalize layout plans for manufacturing setups and utility equipment
- Ensure contractor compliance with safety, statutory, and work standards
- Identify automation opportunities in existing manufacturing setups to minimize manpower
- Size and select BOQ for erection hardware like piping and accessories
- Ensure project design and implementation meet all legal compliance and GCPL safety standards
- Plan and implement a comprehensive quality control system for all project aspects
- Establish effective communication channels with all stakeholders
- Streamline processes to reduce costs and improve project efficiency without compromising quality or safety
- Budget responsibility:
- Create capital budgets for process and utilities equipment for capacity and NPD projects
- Identify and prepare additional budgetary requirements for resources
- Ensure project delivery within the approved budget
- Anticipate budget overruns in advance and proactively appraise relevant stakeholders
Education
- Graduate in Engineering in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering with Project Experience
Experience
- Over 10 years in operations, maintenance, and project management of bulk manufacturing vessels and utilities commissioning in FMCG, pharma and chemical industries
- Extensive knowledge of project management for small to medium facilities, from planning to execution
- Expertise in project and construction safety, environmental management and statutory requirements for IBR/non-IBR boiler operations
- Strong understanding of sizing and selecting compressors, boilers, chillers, cooling towers and AHUs, along with operation and maintenance of various systems
- Proficient in energy audits, identifying energy-saving projects and implementing solutions
- Experience with digitization of utility packages (CBMS, digital twin, UMS) and manufacturing processes (auto batching, batch reporting)
- Familiarity with IoT, Industry 4.0, and data capturing in manufacturing and utilities
- Skilled in budgetary exercises, structured planning, risk assessment and critical situation management
- Proficient in MS Project, Zoho, MS Office (especially Excel) and AutoCAD
