Engineering Team Lead (Backend) | Remote | Full-Time / Fractional

Employment Type: Full-Time or Fractional (Minimum 20 hours/week)
We’re partnering with an innovative SaaS company looking for an experienced Engineering Team Lead to lead a high-performing engineering team while remaining hands-on with backend development.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, mentoring engineers, and driving the modernization of a legacy platform into a scalable, service-oriented architecture.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers while remaining actively involved in coding.
- Drive the migration and decoupling of a legacy backend into a modern architecture.
- Collaborate with leadership to translate business objectives into technical solutions.
- Conduct code reviews, mentor engineers, and promote engineering best practices.
- Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Champion the use of AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a hands-on technical leader with a strong backend engineering background who enjoys building teams and solving large-scale technical problems.
Must-Have Qualifications
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- 3+ years leading engineering teams.
- Experience managing teams of at least 3–30 engineers.
- Strong backend experience with one or more of:
- PHP
- Node.js
- Python
- Go
- Java
- C#
- Proven experience leading at least one legacy migration or system decoupling project.
- Experience conducting code reviews, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Comfortable balancing technical leadership with hands-on development.
- Strong communication skills and experience working with remote or international teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience with microservices or distributed systems.
- Product-focused mindset with the ability to align engineering decisions with business goals.
- Experience using AI tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar to enhance software development workflows.
