Job description
About the Company
General Matter enriches uranium.
We are designing, building, and operating the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services, here in the US.
In the process, we are restoring America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel to power AI, advanced manufacturing and critical industries our country relies on to remain competitive.
Fuel drives the cost of advanced reactor electricity production, and enrichment drives the cost of the fuel that advanced reactors consume. Reliable, low-cost enrichment is the catalyst for the nuclear Renaissance now under way.
Our mission is to make nuclear not only the cleanest and safest source of baseload power, but also the most affordable. We believe abundant nuclear energy will lead to a post-scarcity society.
We were incubated inside Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by over a dozen of the world's top venture capital firms.
Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.
We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.
Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.
About The Team
The Test Team is responsible for development, qualification, and acceptance testing of all hardware products at General Matter. We create and maintain the infrastructure and standards to support rapid hardware development.
About This Role
As a Test Technician, you execute hardware test operations - setting up, instrumenting, running, and tearing down tests on the team's test stands. You are the hands on the hardware during a test campaign: you make the setup real, run the test to procedure, and troubleshoot when issues arise. Your primary output is test setup and execution; you'll also support build and assembly when the campaign needs it.
Responsibilities
- Set up test articles, fixtures, and stands for mechanical, structural, thermal, fluid, and vacuum testing per defined procedures
- Install and route instrumentation - strain gauges, thermocouples, RTDs, pressure transducers, load cells, accelerometers. Connect to data acquisition systems per defined configurations
- Operate test equipment and DAQ systems
- Execute test procedures and accurately record results
- Operate fluid systems for proof, leak, and functional tests
- Troubleshoot hardware, instrumentation, and test setups; identify off-nominal behavior and help engineering drive to root cause
- Maintain and calibrate test equipment; track calibration schedules; perform preventive maintenance
- Support post-test inspection, data hand-off, and test article teardown
- Maintain a safe, organized, FOD-controlled test area; follow lockout/tagout and pressure-system safety practices
- Support fabrication of fixtures and test setups as needed
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 4+ years of hands-on test, integration, or hardware experience in aerospace, hard tech, automotive, industrial, or military environments
- Ability to read and execute test procedures, engineering drawings, and fluid/electrical schematics
- Hands-on experience installing instrumentation and using electronic test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, DAQ)
- Hardware troubleshooting ability
- Comfort in a fast-paced development environment; safety-first mindset
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Light fabrication experience – tube bending, harnessing, precision mechanical assembly
- Vacuum systems experience
- Exposure to test conductor / console operations
- Radiation / HazOps experience
Additional Requirements
- Physical effort including standing, lifting, and carrying equipment up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Must be able to work all required shift hours, overtime and/or weekends as needed.
