Job Description
Job Overview
GCCM is seeking a Director of Operations to lead project execution discipline across commercial exterior facade projects. This role is responsible for creating daily visibility, holding Project Managers accountable, coordinating field and procurement priorities, protecting schedule and margin, strengthening documentation, and escalating risks before they damage the project.
Responsibilities
GCCM-Specific Meaning
Daily PM Accountability
Run a short daily operating check-in with each Project Manager or project pod to confirm commitments, blockers, RFIs, submittals, manpower needs, material status, client issues, and high-risk items.
Weekly Project Health Reviews
Maintain and review a one-page scorecard for every active project covering schedule, budget, procurement, RFIs, submittals, change orders, manpower, safety, quality, punch list, billing, and client risk.
Schedule Control
Require and verify 2-week and 6-week look-ahead schedules. Confirm field readiness, deliveries, access, manpower, inspections, phasing, and critical project dependencies.
Procurement and Material Coordination
Track long-lead and critical materials including aluminum, glass, hardware, doors, anchors, sealants, accessories, shop drawings, samples, and specialty/security products.
Document Control Discipline
Enforce current drawings, approved submittals, RFI logs, change order logs, meeting minutes, transmittals, field reports, photos, punch lists, and closeout packages.
RFI, Submittal, and Change Order Management
Make sure PMs submit, follow up, price, document, and escalate unresolved items before they impact fabrication, procurement, field installation, payment, or client relationships.
Budget and Margin Protection
Review project budgets, committed costs, labor burn, unapproved change work, late billing, retainage, cash collection risk, and exposure to claims or margin loss.
Field and Manpower Coordination
Coordinate PMs with field supervisors and foremen so labor is assigned to the right project, crews have clear priorities, and manpower is not idle, overloaded, or misaligned.
Quality and Safety Standards
Create and enforce project quality checkpoints and safety compliance expectations, especially on schools, hospitals, and government projects where reputation and documentation are critical.
Client and GC Communication Standards
Ensure PMs communicate professionally, document commitments, respond on time, and escalate sensitive issues before they become relationship or payment problems.
Issue Escalation System
Define and enforce what must be escalated within 24 hours, including missed milestones, critical path threats, denied access, design conflicts, unpaid change work, safety incidents, defective materials, and client complaints.
Process Improvement and Training
Build GCCM SOPs, templates, project kickoff checklists, PM training, field handoff processes, project closeout standards, and post-project lessons learned routines.
