Role Overview We are seeking a Co-Founder with strong legal, governance, and strategic capabilities to join GAYEN FAMILY FARM as an equal founding partner. This is a founder-level role, not a traditional employment position.
The Co-Founder will help shape the company’s legal foundation, governance structures, and cross-border operations while contributing to business development, partnerships, and operational strategy. The role involves coordination with on-the-ground agricultural operations in The Gambia and strategic planning in a hybrid or remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
Co‑lead company strategy, governance, and long‑term vision
Support legal structuring, compliance, and risk management across jurisdictions
Assist in drafting and reviewing founders’ agreements, partnership contracts, supplier agreements, and land‑use arrangements
Support regulatory compliance related to agriculture, land tenure, corporate governance, and international operations
Contribute to business development, partnerships, and investor readiness
Support sales, marketing, and distribution strategy
Conduct market, legal, and regulatory research
Collaborate with local teams, advisors, and external counsel
Founder Structure and Equity
This role is structured as an equal co‑founder partnership. Equity is allocated equally among confirmed co‑founders based on the final number of founders.
2 co‑founders: 50% each
3 co‑founders: 33.33% each
4 co‑founders: 25% each
All founder equity includes equal voting rights and governance authority.
Equity is subject to standard founder vesting terms:
12‑month cliff
Compensation and Funding Stage
This is an early‑stage, pre‑seed venture.
Cash compensation may be minimal or deferred initially The company is actively pursuing pre‑seed and seed funding to support agricultural operations, legal infrastructure, and market expansion in The Gambia
Founder stipends or salaries may be introduced upon funding or revenue milestones
Who You Are
Background or strong experience in law, legal strategy, compliance, or governance
Familiarity with contracts, corporate structuring, or regulatory frameworks
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort with early‑stage ambiguity
Ability to work across cultures and jurisdictions
Interest or experience in agriculture, sustainability, food systems, or emerging markets is a strong plus A law degree (JD or equivalent) or significant professional legal experience is highly preferred, but not strictly required if practical experience is strong.
