The Prince Albert Daily Herald is a locally owned daily newspaper in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. We publish Tuesday through Saturday and cover politics, current events, sports, arts, culture, education, court and general interest stories. We are the only locally owned media outlet in Prince Albert and strive to cover stories that often go uncovered by larger media outlets.
Responsibilities
Work with the editor to develop and pitch story ideas
Conduct interviews
Take photographs that add to the story
Write stories that are accurate, objective, and fair
Write clean copy by deadline
Assist with layout
Post stories online and to social media
About Prince Albert
Prince Albert is a city of nearly 38,000 people in north-central Saskatchewan. It has an active arts scene with several galleries and the E.A. Rawlinson Centre for the Arts. It boasts a WHL hockey team, U18 AAA boys and girls hockey teams, two major high schools with strong volleyball, football, and basketball programs, plus a variety of club teams in various sports.
Recreational amenities include the Alfred Jenkins Field House, which has an indoor soccer pitch and indoor track, Cooke Municipal Golf Course, and Little Red River Park. The latter is popular with hikers in the summer and cross‑country skiers in the winter. Prince Albert has a provincial courthouse, plus a Court of King’s Bench. The City has started constructing a new Acute Care Tower in the local hospital, and started planning for a new 4,500‑seat Convention and Cultural Events Centre.
The Prince Albert area is known for its great outdoor recreation opportunities. Those who like golfing, hiking, fishing, canoeing, or camping will love living in the area.
Qualifications
Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
Must be objective and professional
Must have post‑secondary training as a journalist or relevant experience
Must own a car and have a valid driver’s licence
Experience with InDesign is not necessary, but an asset
Must be a good communicator who works well with others and can deal with the public in a professional manner
Must be willing to live and work in Prince Albert
