Senior Magento 2 DevOps Engineer – Server Performance, Varnish, Cloudflare, MySQL

We are looking for a senior Magento 2 DevOps / performance engineer to help investigate and resolve server performance issues for a high-traffic Magento 2 store.

Our environment is already professionally configured, but we need an expert who can analyze the full stack and identify performance bottlenecks.

This is not a beginner Magento task. We need someone who is experienced with large Magento deployments and server infrastructure.

Environment

• Magento 2.4.7p3 (Open Source) (Upgrade in progress to 2.4.7p8 by end of March 2026)
• Cloudways hosting (64GB RAM / 16 Core server)
• Nginx
• Varnish fullpage cache
• Redis
• MySQL
• Cloudflare (CDN, WAF, DDoS protection)

We also run a custom mobile API layer used by our iOS and Android applications.

Current Issue

When Cloudflare cache is active, the site performs well.

However, when requests hit the origin server (bypassing Cloudflare cache), CPU usage spikes significantly.

We suspect one or more of the following may be involved:

• Magento REST API load
• Custom API endpoints
• Varnish caching efficiency
• MySQL

• PHP-FPM worker configuration
• Bot traffic hitting dynamic endpoints
• Magento AJAX endpoints (customer/section/load, etc.)
• Magento module performance

We have already begun analyzing server logs and applying WAF rules, but we want a deep technical investigation from an experienced Magento infrastructure expert.

Responsibilities

• Investigate server performance under load (or simulated load with ~250+ concurrent connections). The architecture should have no issue handling 1,000 hits concurrently to the website.
• Analyze Apache/Nginx logs for highimpact endpoints
• Evaluate Magento caching strategy (Varnish + Cloudflare)
• Review Redis configuration and usage
• Analyze MySQL slow queries and database load
• Review PHP-FPM configuration and worker usage
• Identify expensive Magento endpoints or modules
• Recommend infrastructure or configuration improvements
• Help implement fixes if needed

Desired Expertise

Strong experience with:

• Magento 2 performance optimization
• Linux server administration
• Nginx

/ Apache

• Varnish cache
• Redis
• MySQL

• Cloudflare caching & WAF rules
• Magento REST and GraphQL APIs
• Bot traffic mitigation
• Experience with hightraffic Magento stores is highly preferred.

Deliverables

We are looking for:

• Root cause analysis of the server load
• Clear explanation of the bottleneck(s)
• Recommendations for improvements
• Assistance implementing fixes if necessary

Contract duration of 1 to 3 months. with 30 hours per week.
