Ecommerce Website Developer – Safety Sign Online Store

Project Overview

We are an Australian signage manufacturing business developing an ecommerce website to sell workplace safety signs online. The website will function primarily as a structured product catalogue with ecommerce checkout. Customers will browse categories of safety signs, select size and material variants, and purchase directly online.

The focus of this project is clarity, scalability, and ease of product management, rather than heavy graphic design. The site must support a large catalogue of products and be easy to maintain as new products are added.

Project Scope

The developer will be responsible for building the core ecommerce website including:

• ecommerce platform setup
• store structure and navigation
• category and product templates
• product variant configuration
• cart and checkout configuration
• shipping and GST configuration
• mobile optimisation
• assistance with product import

Product Catalogue Structure

The website will contain a large catalogue of safety signs organised into categories

Example categories may include:

• Danger Signs
• Warning Signs
• Mandatory Signs
• Construction Signs
• Traffic Signs
• Workplace Safety Signs
• Custom Safety Signs
• Prohibition Signs

Each product will have multiple variants such as:

• material (e.g. corflute, aluminium, vinyl)
• size (e.g. A5, A4, A3)
• quantity - volume pricing

The site structure must support this efficiently using product variants rather than duplicate products.

Product Page Requirements

Each product page should include:

• product image
• product title
• SKU
• description
• material options
• size options
• quantity selection
• add-to-cart functionality
• related products or similar items

Bulk pricing functionality is desirable but optional.

Custom Sign Request Feature

The site should include a way for customers to request custom signage

This may include:

• artwork upload
• material selection
• size selection
• quantity
• notes field

Core Pages Required

• optional blog/news section

Navigation and Search

Important requirements:

• product search functionality
• category navigation

• designed for ecommerce usability

Future Stage 2 – Printed Catalogue

In the future we plan to develop a printed product catalogue using the same product database. For this reason, the website should be structured so product information can easily be exported for catalogue production.

Important considerations include:

• consistent product image ratios
• clear SKU structure
• structured product descriptions
• exportable product data (CSV)

Experience Required

Applicants must have experience building ecommerce websites with:

• large product catalogues
• multiple product variants
• Shopify

Estimated Project Size

We expect this project to take approximately 60–100 hours depending on the developer and platform used.
