Working Hours
Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
As a Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court, you will:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for public inquiries, providing excellent customer service in person and over the phone.
- Manage civil and criminal filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state guidelines.
- Process land records, concealed handgun permits, marriage licenses, and passport applications.
- Conduct daily correspondence with other agencies, attorneys, and the public to facilitate court operations.
- Prepare and process legal documents.
- Set and review court dockets to ensure efficient case flow and adherence to mandatory timelines.
- Experience and Education: 1+ years in a professional environment, ideally within a Clerk's office or related field; a combination of relevant education and professional coursework. Education or experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
- Criminal Justice Knowledge: Strong understanding of Virginia laws, court procedures, and the criminal justice system.
- Communication and Confidentiality: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and other relevant software, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Adaptable Team Player: Motivated, adaptable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Certifications: US Department of State Passport Agency certification is highly desirable and/or the ability to obtain the certification once employed, and complete Virginia Supreme Court courses annually.
