Job Description

Enterprise Applications Support Engineer – Legal Tech

Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid, 2 days on-site) – we are also open to candidates in NYC and Washington, DC who can work in a hybrid environment

Compensation: $100,000–$120,000 DOE, plus bonus and benefits

We’re partnered with a leading US intellectual property law firm that’s looking for an Enterprise Applications Support Engineer to support and improve the firm’s key business systems. You’ll work across document management, finance, and IP applications that underpin how the firm serves its clients every day.

The Role

This is a role for someone who enjoys looking after important business applications end‑to‑end, not just closing tickets. You’ll help keep core legal systems stable and up to date, support upgrades and new features, and use SQL/T‑SQL and basic REST API work to troubleshoot issues and make small improvements.

You’ll be involved in projects like an iManage (on‑prem to cloud) migration and an Adderant upgrade, working closely with vendors, IT colleagues, and users across the firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain the firm’s legal applications (DMS, finance, IP systems) and their day‑to‑day workflows.
  • Help plan and deliver application installs, updates, and upgrades – including server‑side components as well as desktop clients.
  • Monitor application and server performance, identify issues early, and work to minimise downtime.
  • Develop and run SQL / T‑SQL queries to investigate issues, produce reports, and support business and IT requests.
  • Assist with integrations and data flows between systems using REST APIs or web services, with guidance from more senior technical staff where needed.
  • Create or update testing and regression scripts and follow clear procedures after installs and updates to make sure systems are working correctly.
  • Coordinate with vendors on issues, patches, and system upgrades, and help test and roll out their changes.
  • Support application testing (including UAT) for new installs, updates, and patches – across both server‑side and desktop applications.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience as an Applications Support Engineer / Application Analyst / Enterprise Applications Support in a law firm or other professional services environment.
  • Hands‑on experience with legal DMS platforms such as iManage or NetDocuments and/or finance systems such as Adderant or Elite.
  • Comfortable writing and running SQL / T‑SQL queries to look up data, troubleshoot issues, and create basic reports.
  • Some exposure to REST APIs or application integrations (for example, helping support interfaces between DMS, finance, and other systems).
  • Practical experience helping with application installations, updates, or upgrades – ideally including work on server‑side applications, not just desktop clients.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, a methodical approach to problems, and a willingness to document what you do (scripts, procedures, checklists).
  • Enjoys working with both IT colleagues and non‑technical users, and comfortable coordinating with vendors.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

You’ll be the go‑to person for key applications at a highly respected, Boston‑based IP law firm, with the chance to be involved in important upgrade and migration projects rather than just day‑to‑day support.

This role offers variety, stability, and the chance to deepen your skills in high‑demand legal systems (iManage, Adderant, IP tools), SQL/T‑SQL, and integrations – all in a firm that sees technology as a genuine partner to the business.
