Job Description – L1 Passive Network Engineer Job Title: L1 Passive Network Engineer Department: Network Operations / Infrastructure Experience: 0–2 Years Location: [Location] Employment Type: Full-Time Job SummaryWe are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented L1 Passive Network Engineer to support the installation, maintenance, and monitoring of passive network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will assist in structured cabling, fiber optic installation, documentation, and basic troubleshooting under the guidance of senior engineers while ensuring compliance with organizational standards and service-level agreements (SLAs). Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in the installation and maintenance of fiber optic and copper cabling infrastructure. Perform basic fiber termination, patching, and cable routing activities. Support rack installation, cable dressing, labeling, and patch panel management. Monitor and report physical network issues such as cable damage, loose connections, or rack abnormalities. Conduct basic cable continuity and connectivity testing using standard testing tools. Assist in preventive maintenance of passive network infrastructure. Maintain accurate documentation for cable routes, rack layouts, labeling, and inventory. Coordinate with L2 engineers and field teams during installation and maintenance activities. Escalate complex issues to higher support levels as per defined procedures. Follow organizational safety guidelines and standard operating procedures during field activities. Support asset management and maintain housekeeping of network rooms and data centers. Participate in scheduled maintenance activities and provide support during emergency incidents when required. Required Technical SkillsBasic understanding of structured cabling concepts. Knowledge of fiber optic and copper cabling fundamentals. Familiarity with: Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A cabling Single Mode (SM) and Multi Mode (MM) fiber Patch panels and ODFs Rack installation and cable management Basic knowledge of cable testing tools such as: Optical Power Meter OTDR (preferred) LAN Cable Tester Understanding of Layer 1 networking concepts. Ability to read basic cable layouts and rack diagrams. Preferred SkillsBasic understanding of data center infrastructure. Familiarity with passive networking standards and best practices. Knowledge of inventory management and documentation. Willingness to learn active networking concepts. Basic computer skills including MS Office and documentation tools. QualificationsDiploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline. Freshers with relevant training or internship experience are encouraged to apply. Preferred CertificationsCertified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) – Preferred BICSI Installer (Preferred) Basic Networking Certification (CCNA training or equivalent is an advantage) Experience0–2 years of experience in passive networking, structured cabling, telecom, ISP, enterprise IT, or data center environments. Fresh graduates with relevant technical training may also be considered. Soft SkillsGood communication and interpersonal skills. Strong willingness to learn and develop technical expertise.
