We have Immediate opening for a Sr. DevOps Engineer with Enterprise Cloud (EMU) with strong hands-on experience to support a long-term engagement with our client. Must be able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
Role: Sr. DevOps Engineer with Enterprise Cloud (EMU)
Location: Washington, DC (Locals Preffered)
Duration: Long term
Experience: 10+ Years
Client: American Unit / AMTRAK (Ex-Amtrak or Railroad Experience needed)
GitHub Platform Administration & Governance
Administer GitHub Enterprise Cloud (EMU) or Enterprise Server, including organizations, teams, and enterprise-level policy management.
Configure and enforce org-wide rulesets, branch protection, and required status checks at scale.
Implement repository governance via templates, .github repos, CODEOWNERS, and custom repository properties.
Manage SAML/SCIM SSO, identity provider integration (e.g., Entra ID/Okta), and automated user/team provisioning.
Define and enforce policy-as-code for org settings (e.g., via Terraform GitHub provider or the GitHub API).
GitHub Actions Platform (beyond writing workflows)
Deploy and operate self-hosted runners (including autoscaling on Kubernetes via Actions Runner Controller / ARC).
Manage runner groups, larger hosted runners, and cost/usage governance across the enterprise.
Build and publish composite actions and a centralized reusable-workflow library with versioning and release strategy.
Harden Actions supply chain: pin actions to SHAs, restrict allowed actions, configure OIDC for keyless cloud auth (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform).
Configure environments, deployment protection rules, and required reviewers for promotion gates.
Security Platform (GitHub Advanced Security)
Administer GitHub Advanced Security (GHAS): CodeQL, secret scanning (with push protection), and Dependabot at scale.
Author custom CodeQL queries and tune SAST results to reduce false positives.
Roll out security campaigns, security overview dashboards, and remediation SLAs across orgs.
Integrate GHAS findings into existing tooling and enforce security gates in pipelines.
Automation, Extensibility & Integrations
Build automation against the GitHub REST and GraphQL APIs.
Develop GitHub Apps and/or webhook-driven services for custom platform workflows.
Experience with the GitHub CLI (gh) and extensions for tooling and scripting.
Integrate GitHub with the broader toolchain (Jira, ServiceNow, Slack/Teams, artifact registries, observability).
Migration & Modernization
Lead migrations to GitHub (e.g., from GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins) using GitHub Enterprise Importer / gh gei.
Convert legacy CI (Jenkins, Checkmarx, etc.) into GitHub Actions with minimal disruption (extends your existing Checkmarx line).
Developer Experience / Platform Engineering
Implement GitHub Copilot enablement, governance, and adoption at the org level.
Stand up self-service developer platforms using GitHub as the control plane (scaffolding, golden paths, IDP/Backstage integration).
Define metrics and reporting (DORA, Actions usage, security posture) using GitHub's audit log and APIs.
Possible "must-have" tightening
Hands-on GitHub Enterprise administration (separate from the general 5+ years DevOps).
Familiarity with GitHub's billing/metered usage model for Actions, Packages, and GHAS to manage spend.
End Client Note: As mandated by the client, candidates must provide a minimum of 7 years of verifiable employment history with valid references. All submitted employment details must exactly match the candidate's LinkedIn profile. Any discrepancies may result in delays, rejection during background verification (BGC), or failure in onboarding.
