Senior Back-End Engineer

Overview

Finofo is seeking a Back-End Engineer who can build fast, iterate faster, and work tightly with Front-End Engineers and a UI Designer. You’ll help wire up real product features with real-world consequences, and when the design changes mid-implementation, you’ll collaborate with your team to adjust on the fly. This is foundational build work, not a maintenance role.

What You’ll Do

• Build and evolve core back-end systems using Python and PostgreSQL
• Own APIs that power key product flows, and shape how they evolve
• Work side-by-side with front-end engineers and designers to iterate fast and ship UI-driven features
• Write and maintain tests, and monitor your services
• Participate in architecture discussions and raise the bar for system design
• Own production issues end-to-end: investigate, fix, and follow through
• Ideate, iterate, and debug live with the team; even if it’s 9PM on a Friday

Who You Are

• 8+ years of experience designing, building, and operating back-end systems in production at scale
• Expert in Python (or a similar OOP language), with strong proficiency in PostgreSQL
• Proven track record in API design and hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS)
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with AI/ML — building classifiers, training models, and applying machine learning techniques in production
• Founder-speed mindset: you put in the effort it takes to win
• You understand that back-end decisions shape front-end experiences — and vice versa
• You prefer to work closely with people: designers, front-end devs, product
• You communicate clearly, give direct feedback, and take ownership
• You don’t measure success by tickets closed, but by what actually gets shipped and works
• Bonus: fintech experience or experience in another industry where some features just can’t start failing randomly
