This paid, part-time internship is scheduled to start in September and end in January

This internship provides operational support to ensure compliance and control for the FHLBank's investments, debt and derivatives trading transactions and other related activities. Requires a significant level of judgment and interpretation as these financial instruments often include complex and non-standard terms that must be captured timely and properly accounted for from multiple sources and types of documents.

In This Role, You Will

• Assist with the entry and preparation of the daily/periodic accounting trading activities for the FHLBank's investments, debt and derivatives. Daily activities can include: (a) gathering, analyzing, interpreting, preparing data entry or review of data entry by others of interest rate  resets and debt/derivative/investment trades from varied and non-standard sources (Bloomberg, term sheets, offering notices, MarkitWire Tickets, etc.), (b) processing accounting systems for debt/derivatives/ investment to support daily close process, (c) verification of principal, interest, and security  payments for  areas of responsibilities, including preparation of wires for related payments, working with  counterparties to resolve payment differences and (d) reconciliations to broker statements/ payments.

• Assist with verifying the receipt and accuracy of varied and non-standard derivative contracts, confirmations, rate information, prospectuses and hedge documents for departmental documentation files for investments, debt, derivatives, etc., with traders and third-party middle office departments to resolve any confirmation discrepancies.

• Responsible for working with the back office (Financial Instruments Accounting area) and front office (Capital Markets) to resolve any discrepancies or reconciling items

Qualifications

• Completion of at least sophomore year of college toward an undergraduate degree in accounting.

• Knowledge of the banking and thrift industry preferred.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Knowledge and proficient use of MS Office applications including Word, Access and Excel.
