MOSTLY REMOTE - 3/4 times per year onsite. Open to individuals in BC or AB.

We’re Hiring: IP & Optical Network Planning Engineer

Are you passionate about building reliable, high‑performance networks that scale with customer demand? This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward‑thinking network planning team responsible for shaping the evolution of large‑scale IP and optical networks.

You’ll play a critical role in planning, budgeting, and driving network growth and modernization—balancing technical excellence with business strategy. This role goes beyond engineering: your insights will directly influence investment decisions, service reliability, and long‑term network strategy.

Must‑Have Skills

  • Network Expertise: Strong understanding of networking layers, with deep knowledge of IP and transport technologies
  • Budget & Investment Planning: Experience managing capital and expense budgets, including network investment plans
  • Executive Communication: Confidence presenting plans, recommendations, and business cases to leadership for approval
  • Telecommunications Experience: Hands‑on experience planning IP and optical network infrastructure

Nice‑to‑Have Skills

  • Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng)
  • Experience with programming, scripting, or database tools
  • A proactive mindset with a passion for driving improvements and innovation

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute IP and/or transport network deployment and evolution plans
  • Monitor network capacity and utilization, ensuring cost‑effective and timely upgrades
  • Prepare capital and expense budgets and support long‑term investment strategies
  • Analyze alternatives and present formal business cases
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to influence technical and business decisions
  • Support sales inquiries and complex bids with engineering insight
  • Maintain tools and databases that support annual and long‑range network planning

What You Bring

  • Strong knowledge of fiber optics, optical networking, and IP technologies
  • Solid understanding of network planning and business/economic analysis
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; SAP experience is an asset
  • A university degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Curiosity, critical thinking, and a desire to understand the “why” behind business decisions
